A golf shoe with an upper and a sole assembly comprising a midsole and an outsole with a plurality of traction elements arranged on the outsole. The plurality of traction elements includes a first set of traction elements provided along an anterior end and a posterior end of the outsole, a second set of traction elements provided along a lateral side edge and a medial side edge of the outsole, and one or more rubber inserts provided along the anterior and posterior ends of the outsole, wherein the one or more rubber inserts have a lower modulus of elasticity than the first set of traction elements and/or the second set of traction elements.

1 . A golf shoe, comprising:
an upper; a sole assembly comprising a midsole and an outsole; a plurality of traction elements arranged on the outsole, wherein the plurality of traction elements includes (i) a first set of traction elements provided along an anterior end and a posterior end of the outsole, (ii) a second set of traction elements provided along a lateral side edge and a medial side edge of the outsole, and (iii) one or more rubber inserts provided along the anterior and posterior ends of the outsole, wherein the one or more rubber inserts have a lower modulus of elasticity than the first set of traction elements and the second set of traction elements, wherein the first set of traction elements or the second set of traction elements comprise a first feature for mechanically interlocking with a ground surface, wherein the first feature comprises a first material, and wherein the first set of traction elements, the second set of traction elements, or the one or more rubber inserts comprise a second feature comprising a second material for frictionally engaging with the ground surface; and a coating applied to the plurality of traction elements, wherein the coating comprises a physical configuration and a material composition that each spatially vary across the outsole.
2 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of traction elements are configured to provide a first traction stiffness ranging from about 60 N/mm to about 80 N/mm in a medial-lateral direction on the ground surface.
3 . The golf shoe of claim 2 , wherein the plurality of traction elements are configured to provide a second traction stiffness ranging from about 80 N/mm to about 120 N/mm in an antero-posterior direction on the ground surface.
4 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , further comprising one or more particles embedded in or dispersed through the first material or the second material to enhance an abrasion resistance of the traction elements and a frictional engagement between the plurality of traction elements and the ground surface.
5 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein a first subset of the first set of traction elements or the second set of traction elements comprises the first feature, and wherein a second subset of the first set of traction elements or the second set of traction elements comprises the second feature.
6 . The golf shoe of claim 5 , wherein the first subset of traction elements has a greater height or aspect ratio than the second subset of traction elements.
7 . The golf shoe of claim 5 , wherein each and every traction element of the first subset of traction elements has a greater height than each and every traction element of the second subset of traction elements.
8 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein the first material has a higher density than the second material.
9 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein the first material has a greater hardness or modulus of elasticity than the second material.
10 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein a coefficient of friction between the second material and the ground surface is greater than a coefficient of friction between the first material and the ground surface.
11 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein the one or more rubber inserts are separated or spaced apart from the first set of traction elements and the second set of traction elements.
12 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein the one or more rubber inserts are positioned between the first set of traction elements and the anterior or posterior end of the outsole.
13 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein the one or more rubber inserts comprise a different material than the first set of traction elements and the second set of traction elements.
14 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein the traction elements in the first set of traction elements and the traction elements in the second set of traction elements comprise a thermoplastic polyurethane material with a higher modulus of elasticity than the one or more rubber inserts.
15 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein the second set of traction elements comprises a plurality of traction elements that gradually increase in length as the traction elements extend from the anterior or posterior ends of the outsole towards a midfoot region of the outsole.
16 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of traction elements are positioned around a central region of the outsole.
17 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein the second set of traction elements comprises one or more fin shaped traction elements or one or more traction elements with a fanged profile.
18 . The golf shoe of claim 1 , wherein the traction elements in the second set of traction elements each comprise a first surface extending vertically downwards from a base surface of the outsole and a second surface angled back towards the base surface of the outsole to form a pointed edge configured to penetrate the ground surface.
19 . The golf shoe of claim 18 , wherein the first surface is configured to provide a first horizontal contact area ratio and a first vertical contact area ratio when the golf shoe is worn on the ground surface.
20 . The golf shoe of claim 19 , wherein the second surface is configured to flatten towards the base surface of the outsole when the golf shoe is worn on an off course ground surface to provide a second horizontal contact area ratio that is greater than the first horizontal contact area ratio and a second vertical contact area ratio that is less than the first vertical contact area ratio.Join the waitlist — get patent alerts
