Abstract

A pharmaceutically active phthalzone derivative of the following formula WHEREIN EACH OF R1 and R2 is a member selected from the group consiting of alkyl of from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R3 is a member selected from the group consiting of alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms with the proviso that R3 can form together with R2 a member selected from the group consiting of methylene, methyl-substituted and ethyl-substituted methylene. This compound is effectie for treating hypertension, thrombosis and athroscllerosis. A process for its preparation and a pharmaceutical composition containing it are also provided.

What we claim is: 
     
       1. A compound of the formula: ##SPC11## wherein R is a member selected from the group consisting of alkyl of from 1 to 5 carbon atoms.   
     
     
       2. The compound of claim 1, wherein said compound is 6,8-dimethyl-7-ethoxycarbonyl-4-hydroxymethyl-1-phthalazone. 
     
     
       3. A compound of the formula: ##SPC12##
