Abstract

Amino ester products, useful as additives to lubricating oils, may be prepared by reaction of an alpha-nitroketone and a tertiary aminoalcohol.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
We claim:

       1. The method which comprises reacting (i) a nitroketonized polymer bearing pendant alpha nitroketone groups with (ii) a tertiary amino alcohol thereby forming a polymer bearing pendant aminoester groups; and recovering said polymer bearing said pendant aminoester groups.

       2. The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said nitroketonized polymer has a carbon-carbon backbone chain.

       3. The method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said nitroketonized polymer is a nitroketonized EPT terpolymer having a molecular weight M n of 300-100,000.

       4. The method of preparing an aminoester as claimed in claim 1 wherein said alpha-nitroketone is a nitroketonized EPT terpolymer of ethylene, propylene, and 1,4-hexadiene.

       5. The method of preparing a polymer bearing pendant aminoester groups. ##EQU18## which comprises reacting a nitroketone ##EQU19## with a tertiary amino alcohol ##EQU20## wherein R is a polymer-derived moiety, R'" and R iv are saturated hydrocarbon, R' is hydrogen or saturated hydrocarbon, and R" is divalent saturated hydrocarbon, thereby forming product aminoester; and recovering said aminoester.

       6. The method as claimed in claim 5 wherein R'" and R iv are C 1 -C 30 saturated alkyl.

       7. The method as claimed in claim 5 wherein R'" and R iv are C 1 -C 10 saturated alkyl.

       8. The method as claimed in claim 5 wherein R" is ethylene -- CH 2 --CH 2 --.

       9. The method as claimed in claim 5 wherein said tertiary amino alcohol is a dimethylamino alcohol.

       10. The method as claimed in claim 5 wherein said tertiary amino alcohol is dimethylamino ethanol.

       11. The method as claimed in claim 5 wherein said polymer is an EPT polymer.

       12. The method of preparing an aminoester as claimed in claim 5 wherein said alpha-nitroketone is a nitroketonized EPT terpolymer having a molecular weight M n of 300-100,000.

       13. A new aminoester polymer ##EQU21## wherein R is a polymer moiety, R'" and R iv are monovalent saturated hydrocarbon groups, and R is divalent saturated hydrocarbon, said polymer having been prepared by the method which comprises reacting (i) a nitroketonized polymer bearing pendent alpha nitroketone groups with (ii) a tertiary amino alcohol.

       14. The product of claim 13 wherein R'"and R iv are lower alkyl.

       15. The product of claim 13 wherein R" is ethylene --CH 2 -- CH 2 --.

       16. The product of claim 13 wherein R is an EPT derived hydrocarbon moiety.

       17. A novel polymer having a carbon-carbon backbone chain and pendant therefrom a plurality of groups ##EQU22## wherein R'" and R iv are saturated monovalent hydrocarbon, and R" is divalent hydrocarbon, said polymer having a molecular weight M n of 300-100,000 and containing one of said groups per 300-100,000 molecular weight units in said polymer, said polymer having been prepared by the method which comprises reacting (i) a nitroketonized polymer bearing pendent alpha nitroketone groups with (ii) a tertiary amino alcohol.
