       1. A composition useful for the prevention of asthmatic symptoms comprising an amount useful for the prevention of asthmatic symptoms of 6,8-di-t-butyl-4-oxo-4-H-1-benzopyran-2-carboxylic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, lower alkyl ester, ester with a di-lower alkylamine substituted lower alkanol, bis ester with a di-(hydroxy lower alkyl) ether or unsubstituted amide thereof, as active ingredient, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

       2. A composition according to claim 1 comprising from 0.17 to 600 mg. of active ingredient in unit dosage form.

       3. A composition according to claim 1 comprising an effective amount of 6,8-di-t-butyl-4-oxo-4H-1-benzopyran-2-carboxylic acid.

       4. A method for inhibiting the symptoms of asthma in a patient having asthma which comprises administering to said patient, an effective amount of 6,8-di-t-butyl-4-oxo-4H-1-benzopyran-2-carboxylic acid or a pharmaceutically acceptable alt, lower alkyl ester with a di-lower alkylamine substituted lower alkanol, bis ester with a di-(hydroxy lower alkyl) ether or unsubstituted amide thereof, as active ingredient, in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.
