Abstract

Novel cyclopentenecarboxylates of the formula ##STR1## wherein AlK is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R is selected from the group consisting of --CHO and --CH 2 OH and a process for their preparation and a process for the preparation of compounds of the formula ##STR2##

We claim: 
     
       1. A compound of the formula ##STR31## wherein AlK is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R is selected from the group consisting of --CHO and --CH 2  OH. 
     
     
       2. A compound of claim 1 which is ethyl (5RS) (1'E) 2-methoxy-5-3'-hydroxy-1'-propenyl)-1-cyclopentenecarboxylate. 
     
     
       3. A compound of claim 1 which is ethyl (5RS) (1'E) 2-methoxy-5-2'-formylvinyl)-1-cyclopentenecarboxylate.
