Abstract

Novel cyclooctene derivatives of the formula: ##STR1## in which R 1 and R 2 each represents an alkyl group and R 3 is hydrogen or an acyl group are disclosed along with their use as aroma chemicals and/or aroma chemical precursors and processes for their preparation.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. A cyclooctene derivative of the formula: ##STR9## in which R 1  and R 2  each represents an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R 3  represents a hydrogen atom or an acyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms. 
     
     
       2. A compound according to claim 1, in which R 1  and R 2  each represents an ethyl or methyl group. 
     
     
       3. A compound according to claim 2, in which R 3  represents an acetyl group. 
     
     
       4. A compound according to claim 2, in which R 1  and R 2  are both methyl groups. 
     
     
       5. The compound according to claim 4, in which R 3  is hydrogen. 
     
     
       6. The compound according to claim 4, in which R 3  is an acetyl group.
