Abstract

Halogenovinyl-substituted tetrahydrofuran-2-ones of the formula ##STR1## are prepared by reacting a peracid such as peracetic, perpropionic or m-chloroperbenzoic acid with a halogenvinyl-substituted cyclobutanene of the formula ##STR2## in which R 1 to R 8 can be hydrogen, halogen, cyano or various organic radicals, or in pairs can make up a ring. Products wherein R 3 is not hydrogen or R 1 is not halogen are new. The products are useful as intermediates in making insecticides.
