Tropane derivatives

Abstract

3α-Benzylamino-2β-hydroxy-nortropanes substituted in the 8-position by an alkoxycarbonyl or alkanoyl group, useful as analgesics, are prepared by reacting the corresponding 2β,3β-epoxy-nortropane with enzylamine in the presence of phenol.

I claim: 
     
       1. A compound of the formula ##STR4## where R is alkoxycarbonyl or alkanoyl having from two to four carbon atoms; or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid-addition salt thereof. 
     
     
       2. A compound according to claim 1 wherein R is alkoxycarbonyl. 
     
     
       3. A compound according to claim 2, ethyl 3α-benzylamino-2β-hydroxy-1αH,5αH-nortropane-8-carboxylate, or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid-addition salt thereof. 
     
     
       4. A compound according to claim 1 wherein R is alkanoyl. 
     
     
       5. A compound according to claim 4, 3α-benzylamino-8-propionyl-1αH,5αH-nortropan-2β-ol, or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid-addition salt thereof.
