Claims

Abstract

A catalyst support suitable for use in a cracking process or hydrotreating process having outstanding thermal stability comprising a selected Group IIA metal oxide or combinations thereof, alumina and aluminum phosphate.

I claim: 
     
       1. A catalyst support comprising (A) (I) a Group IIA metal oxide selected from the group consisting of calcium oxide, strontium oxide and barium oxide, (II) a combination of two or more Group IIA metal oxides selected from the group consisting of calcium oxide, strontium oxide and barium oxide or (III) a combination of magnesium oxide with at least one Group IIA metal oxide selected from the group consisting of calcium oxide, strontium oxide and barium oxide; (B) alumina and (C) aluminum phosphate matrix, characterized after calcination at 500° C. for about 10 hours as amorphous, and having an average pore radius of from about 10 A to about 300 A, a surface area ranging from about 100 m 2  /g to about 350 m 2  /g, a pore volume of from about 0.3 cc/g to about 1.5 cc/g and wherein component (A) is present in an amount ranging from about 0.5 to about 75 mole percent, component (B) is present in an amount ranging from about two to about 90 mole percent and component (C) is present in an amount ranging from about three to about 95 mole percent. 
     
     
       2. The catalyst support of claim 1 wherein said matrix has an average pore radius of from about 75 A to about 200 A, a surface area of from about 125 m 2  /g to about 250 m 2  /g, a pore volume of from about 0.7 cc/g to about 1.2 cc/g and wherein component (A) is present in an amount ranging from about two to about 70 mole percent, component (B) is present in an amount ranging from about eight to about 80 mole percent and component (C) is present in an amount ranging from about five to about 80 mole percent. 
     
     
       3. The catalyst support of claim 1 wherein component (A) is calcium oxide. 
     
     
       4. The catalyst support of claim 2 wherein component (A) is calcium oxide. 
     
     
       5. The catalyst component of claim 1 wherein component (A) is strontium oxide. 
     
     
       6. The catalyst component of claim 2 wherein component (A) is strontium oxide. 
     
     
       7. The catalyst support of claim 1 wherein component (A) is barium oxide. 
     
     
       8. The catalyst component of claim 2 wherein component (A) is barium oxide. 
     
     
       9. The catalyst component of claim 1 wherein component (A) is composed of magnesium oxide and calcium oxide. 
     
     
       10. The catalyst component of claim 2 wherein component (A) is composed of magnesium oxide and calcium oxide.
