Dithioethers of 2-phenyl-2-alkenals and organoleptic uses thereof

Abstract

Described are dithioethers of 2-phenyl-2-alkenals defined according to the generic structure: ##STR1## wherein N represents 0 or 1 and R 4 and R 5 each represents hydrogen or methyl taken alone or taken further together with dithioethers of 2-phenyl-2-alkenals defined according to the structure: ##STR2## wherein N and R 4 and R 5 are defined, supra and uses thereof in augmenting or enhancing the aroma or taste of foodstuffs, chewing gums, toothpastes and medicinal products.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. A dithioether of 2-phenyl-2-alkenal having the structure: ##STR74## wherein N represents 0 or 1 and each of R 4  and R 5  represents hydrogen or methyl. 
     
     
       2. A dithioether of 2-phenyl-2-alkenal having the structure: ##STR75## wherein N is 0 or 1 and R 4  and R 5  each represents hydrogen or methyl. 
     
     
       3. A mixture of dithioethers of 2-phenyl-2-alkenals defined according to the structure: ##STR76## wherein N represents 0 or 1 and each of R 4  and R 5  represents hydrogen or methyl. 
     
     
       4. The dithioether of 2-phenyl-2-alkenal of claim 1 having the structure: ##STR77## 
     
     
       5. The dithioether of 2-phenyl-2-alkenal of claim 1 having the structure: ##STR78## 
     
     
       6. The dithioether of 2-phenyl-2-alkenal of claim 1 having the structure: ##STR79## 
     
     
       7. The mixture of dithioethers of 2-phenyl-2-alkenals of claim 3 having the structures: ##STR80## 
     
     
       8. The mixture of dithioethers of 2-phenyl-2-alkenals of claim 3 having the structures: ##STR81##
