Substituted glutaric and adipic diperoxyacids

Abstract

Novel peroxyacids of the formula: ##STR1## wherein X is an alkylene group selected from propylene and butylene, R is alkyl containing from 4 to 12 carbon atoms, benzyl or phenyl and m is 1 or 2. The compounds are useful as disinfectants and fabric bleaches.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. β-n-hexyldiperoxyadipic acid. 
     
     
       2. The method of bleaching fabrics comprising the step of contacting said fabrics with an aqueous solution comprising an effective amount of β-n-hexyldiperoxyadipic acid. 
     
     
       3. The method of claim 2 wherein said β-n-hexyldiperoxyadipic acid supplies at least about 2 ppm available oxygen in said solution.
