Abstract

Certain N-[(heterocyclic)aminocarbonyl]isothiazolesulfonamides, such as methyl 4-[[(4-methoxy-6-methylpyrimidin-2-yl)aminocarbonyl]aminosulfonyl]-3-i sothiazolecarboxylate, are useful as herbicides and/or plant growth regulants.

Claims

What is claimed is:

       1. A compound of the formula: QSO.sub.2 NHCONHA where Q is ##STR13## R 5 is Cl, C 1 -C 3 alkoxycarbonyl or C 1 -C 3 alkyl; A is ##STR14## X is CH 3 , OCH 3 , OC 2 H 5 , CH 2 OCH 3 , or cyclopropyl; and Y is CH 3 , OCH 3 , or and agriculturally suitable salts thereof.

       2. A compound of claim 1 where X is CH 3 , OCH 3 , OC 2 H 5 or CH 2 OCH 3 .

       3. An agricultural composition comprising an herbicidally effective amount of a compound of claim 1 and at least one of the following: (a) a surfactant and (b) a solid or liquid diluent.

       4. An agricultural composition comprising an herbicidally effective amount of a compound of claim 2 and at least one of the following: (a) a surfactant and (b) a solid or liquid diluent.

       5. A method for controlling the growth of undesired vegetation comprising applying to the locus of such vegetation an agriculturally effective amount of a compound of claim 1.

       6. A method for controlling the growth of undesired vegetation comprrising applying to the locus of such vegetation an agriculturally effective amount of a compound of claim 2.
