Abstract

Novel isolates of Bacillus thuringienesis contain a toxin which is active against adult nematode worms and larvae. The toxin can be used to treat animals and plants hosting susceptible nematodes.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
We claim:

       1. A Bacillus thuringiensis isolate active against nematodes, said isolate selected from B. thuringiensis strain PS-17, B. thuringiensis strain PS-33F2, B. thuringiensis strain PS-52A1, B. thuringiensis strain PS-63B, and B. thuringiensis strain PS-69D1.

       2. B. thuringiensis strain PS-17, according to claim 1.

       3. B. thuringiensis strain PS-33F2, according to claim 1.

       4. B. thuringiensis strain PS-52A1, according to claim 1.

       5. B. thuringiensis strain PS-63B, according to claim 1.

       6. B. thuringiensis strain PS-69D1, according to claim 1.

       7. A process for controlling nematodes which comprises contacting said nematodes with a nematode-controlling effective amount of a toxin produced by a B. thuringiensis isolate selected from B. thuringiensis strain PS-17, B. thuringiensis strain PS-33F2, B. thuringiensis strain PS-52A1, B. thuringiensis strain PS-63B, and B. thuringiensis strain PS-69D1.

       8. A process, according to claim 7, wherein the toxin is produced by B. thuringiensis PS-17.

       9. A process, according to claim 7, wherein the toxin is produced by B. thuringiensis PS-33F2.

       10. A process, according to claim 7, wherein the toxin is produced by B. thuringiensis PS-52A1.

       11. A process, according to claim 7, wherein the toxin is produced by B. thuringiensis PS-63B.

       12. A process, according to claim 7, wherein the toxin is produced by B. thuringiensis PS-69D1.

       13. A process, according to claim 7, wherein the nematode is Caenorhabditis elegans or Haemonchus contortus.

       14. A process for treating an animal hosting a nematode which comprises administering to said animal host a nematode-controlling effective amount of a toxin produced by a B. thuringiensis isolate selected from B. thuringiensis strain PS-17, B. thuringiensis strain PS-33F2, B. thuringiensis strain PS-52A1, B. thuringiensis strain PS-63B, and B. thuringiensis strain PS-69D1.

       15. A process, according to claim 14, wherein the toxin is produced by B. thuringiensis PS-17.

       16. A process, according to claim 14, wherein the toxin is produced by B. thuringiensis PS-33F2.

       17. A process, according to claim 14, wherein the toxin is produced by B. thuringiensis PS-52A1.

       18. A process, according to claim 14, wherein the toxin is produced by B. thuringiensis PS-63B.

       19. A process, according to claim 14, wherein the toxin is produced by B. thuringiensis PS-69D1.

       20. A process, according to claim 14, wherein the nematode is selected from the genera Haemonchus or Caenorhabditis.
