4-[(2-benzothiazolyl)methylamino]-α-[(3,4-difluorophenoxy)methyl]-1-piperidineethanol

Abstract

A compound of formula <IMAGE> (I) <IMAGE> the racemic mixture, the (S)-form and the acid addition salts thereof, said compound having anti-stroke properties. Pharmaceutical compositions containing this compound as active ingredient and a method of preparing said compound and pharmaceutical compositions.

We claim: 
     
       1. A method of treating strokes in patients suffering from the same which comprises administering to said patients an effective anti-stroke amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR13## the racemic mixture, the (S)-form, or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof. 
     
     
       2. The method of claim 1 wherein the compound of Formula (I) is selected from the group consisting of (S)-4-[(2-benzothiazolyl)methylamino]-α-[(3,4-difluorophenoxy)methyl]-1-piperidineethanol and its dihydrochloride salt. 
     
     
       3. A method of treating warm-blooded newborn patients suffering from postasphyxial brain damage which comprises administering to said patients an effective amount of a compound of the formula: ##STR14## the racemic mixture, the (S)-form, or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof. 
     
     
       4. The method of claim 3 wherein the compound of Formula (I) is selected from the group consisting of (S)-4-[(2-benzothiazolyl)methylamino]-α-[(3,4-difluorophenoxy)methyl]-1-piperidineethanol and its dihydrochloride salt.
