1α-hydroxy vitamin D4 and novel intermediates and analogues

Abstract

Disclosed is 1 alpha ,24-dihydroxy vitamin D4 having the following structure: and pharmaceutical compositions containing said compound. The compound and composition are useful in the treatment of abnormal calcium metabolism. Also Disclosed is a method for the preparation of 1 alpha ,24-dihydroxy vitamin D4.

We claim: 
     
       1. 1α,24 dihydroxy vitamin D 4 . 
     
     
       2. A pharmaceutical composition, comprising an amount effective to increase serum calcium in a patient suffering Vitamin D deficiency of 1α,24 dihydroxy vitamin D 4  in combination with a pharmaceutically acceptable vehicle. 
     
     
       3. The pharamaceutical composition of claim 2, wherein said amount is administered orally. 
     
     
       4. 1α,24-dihydroxyvitamin D 4  produced in accordance with the method comprising incubating 1α-hydroxyvitamin D 4  with cultured human liver cells to form 1α,24-dihydroxyvitamin D 4 , and isolating and purifying the 1α,24-dihydroxyvitamin D 4  via high pressure liquid chromatography.
