Claims

Abstract

In an optical disk having a recording plane having a spiral first track and a spiral second track, information being to be recorded into and/or reproduced from said first and second tracks, the first track is formed into a groove-like shape, the second track is formed between adjacent the first tracks and into a land-like shape, and the first and second tracks record informations in different modulation methods.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. An optical disk comprising a recording plane having a spiral first track and a spiral second track, information being recorded into and/or reproduced from said first and second tracks, wherein said first track is formed into a groove-like shape,   said second track is formed between adjacent said first tracks and into a land-like shape, and   said first track records a first address signal and its associated data and said second track records a second address signal and its associated data using an identical modulation method, the address signal of said first track being opposite in polarity to the address signal of said second track.   
     
     
       2. An optical disk comprising a recording plane having a spiral first track and a spiral second track, information being recorded into and/or reproduced from said first and second tracks, wherein said first track is formed into a groove-like shape, said second track is formed between adjacent said first tracks and into a land-like shape, and   said first track records a first address signal and its associated data and said second track records a second address signal and its associated data, the address signal of said first track being opposite in polarity to the address signal of said second track, in such a manner that address signals of adjacent ones of said first and second tracks do not overlap with each other in a radial direction.   
     
     
       3. An optical disk according to claim 1, wherein said first track has a depth of λ/(8·n) where λ is a wavelength of a laser beam, and n is a refractive index of a substrate of said disk.   
     
     
       4. An optical disk according to claim 1, wherein said first and second tracks are divided into sectors each of which constitutes a unit of recording or reproducing information,   a track address and a sector address is recorded in said first address signal and said second address signal, and   information is recorded into and/or reproduced from said sectors in a unit of the sector.   
     
     
       5. An optical disk according to claim 1, wherein said first and second address signals of said first and second tracks record a track identification signal for identifying the respective track, address information, and an error detection signal.   
     
     
       6. An optical disk according to claim 1, wherein said first and second address signals of said first and second tracks are constituted by a mark position recording method,   said first address signal of said first track is recorded in such a manner that a modulated channel bit "1" corresponds to a level of the land and a channel bit "0" corresponds to a level of the groove, and   said second address signal of said second track is recorded in such a manner that a modulated channel bit "1" corresponds to a level of the groove and a channel bit "0" corresponds to a level of the land.   
     
     
       7. An optical disk comprising a recording plane having a spiral first track and a spiral second track, information being recorded into and/or reproduced from said first and second tracks, wherein said first track is formed into a groove-like shape, said second track is formed between adjacent said first tracks and into a land-like shape, and   a VFO signal for clock synchronization of an address signal for recording address information and its associated data in said first track and for recording address information and its associated data in said second track is recorded in such a manner that the VFO signals of adjacent ones of said first and second tracks are shifted in phase from each other by one-half of a wavelength of said VFO signal.   
     
     
       8. An information recording/reproduction method for recording information to and reproducing information from an optical disk comprising first and second tracks which are formed on the same recording plane, wherein address information and its associated data is recorded and/or reproduced in said first track and address information and its associated data is recorded and/or reproduced in said second track while alternately switching said first and second tracks at each rotation of said optical disk, a sequence such as said first track (or second track), said second track (or first track), said first track (or second track), said first track is a track in which said address information and said associated data is recorded into a groove, said second track is a track in which said address information and said associated data is recorded onto a land sandwiched by said first track, and the switching of said first and second tracks is conducted by inverting a polarity of a tracking error signal.   
     
     
       9. An information recording/reproduction method for recording information to and reproducing information from an optical disk comprising first and second tracks which are formed on the same recording plane, wherein address information and its associated data is recorded and/or reproduced in said first track and address information and its associated data is recorded and/or reproduced in said second track while conducting an addressing in an addressing sequence of said first and second tracks in which an end address of said first track (or second track) is connected to an initial address of said second track (or first track), said first track is a track in which said address information and said associated data is recorded into a groove, said second track is a track in which said address information and said associated data is recorded onto a land sandwiched by said first track, and the switching of said first and second tracks is conducted by inverting a polarity of is a tracking error signal.   
     
     
       10. An information reproduction method by which information is reproduced from an optical disk, said optical disk comprising: first track in which address information and its associated data is recorded into and/or reproduced from a groove;   and a second track in which said address information and said associated data is also recorded onto and/or reproduced from a land sandwiched by said first track, said first and second tracks being formed on the same recording plane, wherein,   in a process of initializing said optical disk,   volume identification information is recorded into disk management areas of said first and second tracks, said volume identification information indicating a volume configuration for recording and reproducing data into and from both said first and second tracks.   
     
     
       11. An optical disk which comprises a first and second tracks which are formed on the same recording plane, and in which address information and its associated data is recorded into or reproduced from said first track and address information and its associated data is recorded into or reproduced from said second track, wherein each of said first and second tracks comprises an information record area, and a disk management area,   said disk management areas comprise a volume management area in which information indicating a volume configuration of information which is recorded into and/or reproduced from both said first and second tracks.   
     
     
       12. An optical disk according to claim 1, wherein said information is recorded and/or reproduced from both said first and second tracks. 
     
     
       13. An optical disk according to claim 2, wherein said information is recorded and/or reproduced from both said first and second tracks. 
     
     
       14. An optical disk according to claim 7, wherein said information is recorded and/or reproduced from both said first and second tracks. 
     
     
       15. An optical disk according to claim 2, wherein said first track has a depth of λ/(8·n) where λ is a wavelength of a laser beam, and n is a refractive index of a substrate of said disk.   
     
     
       16. An optical disk according to claim 2, wherein said first and second tracks are divided into sectors each of which constitutes a unit of recording or reproducing information,   a track address and a sector address is recorded in said first address signal and said second address signal, and   information is recorded into and/or reproduced from said sectors in a unit of the sector.   
     
     
       17. An optical disk according to claim 2, wherein said first and second address signals of said first and second tracks record a track identification signal for identifying the respective track, address information, and an error detection signal.   
     
     
       18. An optical disk according to claim 4, wherein said first and second address signals of said first and second tracks record a track identification signal for identifying the respective track, address information, and an error detection signal.   
     
     
       19. An optical disk according to claim 2, wherein said first and second address signals of said first and second tracks are constituted by a mark position recording method,   said first address signal of said first track is recorded in such a manner that a modulated channel bit "1" corresponds to a level of the land and a channel bit "0" corresponds to a level of the groove, and   said second address signal of said second track is recorded in such a manner that a modulated channel bit "1" corresponds to a level of the groove and a channel bit "0" corresponds to a level of the land.   
     
     
       20. An optical disk according to claim 4, wherein said first and second address signals of said first and second tracks are constituted by a mark position recording method,   said first address signal of said first track is recorded in such a manner that a modulated channel bit "1" corresponds to a level of the land and a channel bit "0" corresponds to a level of the groove, and   said second address signal of said second track is recorded in such a manner that a modulated channel bit "1" corresponds to a level of the groove and a channel bit "0" corresponds to a level of the land.   
     
     
       21. A method for recording information on an optical disk having a spiral first track and a spiral second track, the information being recorded into and/or reproduced from said first and second tracks, the method comprising the steps of: (a) forming said first track into a groove-like shape,   (b) forming said second track between adjacent said first tracks and into a land-like shape, and   (c) recording into said first track both first address signals and respective first data using a first modulation method,   (d) recording into said second track both second address signals and respective second data using the first modulation method, the address signals of said second track being opposite in polarity to the address signals of said first track.   
     
     
       22. The method of claim 21, wherein: step (c) includes recording into said first track both first address signals and respective first data throughout the first track at predetermined positions,   step (d) includes recording into said second track both second address signals and respective second data, throughout the second track at predetermined positions, the address signals of said second track being opposite in polarity to the address signals of said first track.   
     
     
       23. A method for recording information on an optical disk having a spiral first track and a spiral second track, the information being recorded into and/or reproduced from said first and second tracks, the method comprising the steps of: (a) forming said first track into a groove-like shape,   (b) forming said second track between adjacent said first tracks and into a land-like shape,   (c) recording into said first track both first address signals and respective first data using a first modulation method, and   (d) recording into said second track both second address signals and respective second data, using a first modulation method, the address signals of said second track being opposite in polarity to the address signals of said first track, in such a manner that address signals of adjacent ones of said first and second tracks do not overlap with each other in a radial direction.   
     
     
       24. A method for recording information on an optical disk having a spiral first track and a spiral second track, the information being recorded into and/or reproduced from said first and second tracks, the method comprising the steps of: (a) forming said first track into a groove-like shape,   (b) forming said second track between adjacent said first tracks and into a land-like shape, and   (c) recording a VFO signal for clock synchronization of an address signal for i) recording both first address information and respective first data in said first track and ii) recording both second address information and respective second data in said second track, in such a manner that the VFO signals of adjacent ones of said first and second tracks are shifted in phase from each other by one-half of a wavelength of said VFO signal.   
     
     
       25. A method for recording information on an optical disk having a spiral first track and a spiral second track, the information being recorded into and/or reproduced from said first and second tracks, the method comprising the steps of: (a) forming said first track into a groove-like shape,   (b) forming said second track between adjacent said first tracks and into a land-like shape,   (c) recording both first address information and respective first data into or reproducing from said first track,   (d) recording both second address information and respective second data into or reproducing from said second track, and   (e) providing an information record area and a disk management area in both said first track and said second track,   (f) forming said disk management area into a volume management area for recording information indicating a volume configuration of information which is recorded into and/or reproduced from both said first and second tracks.
