Abstract

An electroluminescent device is formed of a pair of electrodes and an organic compound layer interposed between the electrodes. The organic compound layer is composed of an organic compound represented by the following general formula (1): wherein X is a substituted or unsubstituted arylene group or a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic group, each of at least two groups among Ar 1 , Ar 2 , Ar 3 , and Ar 4 is a substituted or unsubstituted fluorenyl group, and the remainder represents a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group.
