Antimycotic gel having high active compound release

Abstract

A pharmaceutical preparation comprising a hydrophilic gel-forming agent, water and a compound of the formula I is suitable for the treatment and prophylaxis of dermatomycoses.

The invention claimed is: 
     
       1. A method of treatment or prophylaxis of dermatomycoses comprising administering a composition in a pharmacologically effective amount to a patient in need thereof wherein the composition is a gel composition and comprises:
 at least one hydrophilic gel-forming agent; 
 at least one spreading agent; and 
 an active component consisting essentially of at least one compound chosen from a compound of formula (I) and physiologically tolerable salts thereof:                  
 
 
       wherein R 1 , R 2 , and R 3 , which are identical or different, are a hydrogen atom or alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R 4  is a saturated hydrocarbon radical having 6 to 9 carbon atoms; and
 wherein the composition is substantially free of any additional active components. 
 
     
     
       2. The method of  claim 1 , wherein the active component consists essentially of 1-hydroxy-4-methyl-6-cyclohexyl-2(1H)pyridone, at least one physiologically tolerable salt thereof, or a mixture of the foregoing. 
     
     
       3. The method of  claim 1 , wherein the active component consists essentially of 1-hydroxy-4-methyl-6-(2,4,4,-trimethylpentyl)-2(1H)pyridone, at least one physiologically tolerable salt thereof, or a mixture of the foregoing. 
     
     
       4. A method of treatment or prophylaxis of fungus of the foot comprising administering a composition in a pharmacologically effective amount to a patient in need thereof wherein the composition is a gel composition and comprises:
 at least one hydrophilic gel-forming agent; 
 at least one spreading agent; and 
 an active component, wherein the active component consists essentially of 1-hydroxy-4-methyl-6-cyclohexyl-2(1H)pyridone; and 
 wherein the composition is substantially free of any additional active components. 
 
     
     
       5. A method of treatment or prophylaxis of fungus of the foot comprising administering a composition in a pharmacologically effective amount to a patient in need thereof wherein the composition is a gel composition and comprises:
 at least one hydrophilic gel-forming agent; 
 at least one spreading agent; and 
 an active component, wherein the active component consists essentially of 1-hydroxy-4-methyl-6-(2,4,4-trimethylpentyl)-2(1H)pyridone; and 
 wherein the composition is substantially free of any additional active components.
