Abstract

According to an embodiment, the invention discusses techniques of encoding image data and decoding the encoded image data in an effective manner. As a result, recording and reproduction of data is optimized by compressing an image signal based on whether or not there exists a significant difference between two adjacent frames or units of image data.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1. A method for decoding predictive coded image data, comprising:
detecting a reference image among previous images based on an identifier included in a predictive coded image, wherein the identifier indicates an ID which is allocated to the reference image; and
decoding the predictive image data based on the detected reference image.

     2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the identifier includes address information of the reference image.

     3. the method of claim 1 , wherein the reference image is an I-picture image frame.

     4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
displaying the decoded image data on a screen.

     5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the predictive coded image data and the identifier associated with the predictive coded image data are stored together in one location.

     6. An apparatus for decoding predictive coded image data, comprising:
a detecting unit to detect a reference image among previous images based on an identifier included in a predictive coded image, wherein the identifier indicates an ID which is allocated to the reference image; and
a decoding unit to decode the predictive image data based on the detected reference image.

     7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the identifier includes address information of the reference image.

     8. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the reference image is an I-picture image frame.

     9. The apparatus of claim 6 , further comprising:
a display unit to display the decoded image data.

     10. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the predictive coded image data and the identifier associated with the predictive coded image data are stored together in one location.
