Process for the preparation of 7-amino syn 3,5-dihydroxy heptanoic acid derivatives, intermediates thereof and methods for their preparation

Abstract

Synthesis methods for the preparation of intermediates which are suitable for the preparation of statin derivatives, and especially to synthesis methods for the intermediate of formula (VI) wherein R a ′ and R c ′ are each independently of the other hydrogen or hydroxy-protecting group, or together are a bridging hydroxy-protecting group; and R b is a carboxy-protecting group.

1. A compound of formula XVI: 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       wherein R a ′ and R c ′ are each independently of the other hydrogen or a hydroxy-protecting group, or together are a bridging hydroxy-protecting group, R* and R** are hydrogen or phenyl-lower alkyl; and R b  is a carboxy-protecting group. 
     
     
       2. The compound of  claim 1 , wherein R a ′ and R c ′ are each independently of the other hydrogen, lower alkanoyl, or lower alkoxy-lower alkanoyl; or together are an isopropylidene-protecting group; and wherein R* and R** are both hydrogen or benzyl; and R b  is a lower-alkyl. 
     
     
       3. The compound of  claim 2 , wherein R a ′ and R c ′ are each independently of the other hydrogen, acetyl, or methoxyacetyl; and R b  is tert-butyl.
