Abstract

Methods and systems for a programmable filtering offset may include filtering desired data located at a variable offset from a start of a particular message in a data stream using a programmable hardware filter module. The variable offset may be specified in bits or bytes. The programmable hardware filter module may start filtering from an offset corresponding to the start of the desired data. The programmable hardware filter module may be a variable length filter or a fixed length filter. An offset from the start of a particular message may be determined, where the desired data that may be compared may start after the offset from the beginning of the message. The programmable hardware filter module may be configured with the determined offset.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified

filtering desired data located at a variable offset from a start of a particular message in a data stream using a programmable hardware filter module, wherein said programmable hardware filter module is operable to:
start said filtering only from an offset corresponding to said start of said desired data; and
utilize both an inclusion mask and an exclusion mask for matching during said filtering.

     2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said programmable hardware filter module is a variable length filter.

     3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein a length of said variable length filter is configured to be a length of said desired data, and said variable length filter is aligned with said desired data using said variable offset.

     4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said programmable hardware filter module is a fixed length filter.

     5. The method according to claim 4 , wherein said fixed length filter is aligned with said desired data using said variable offset.

     6. The method according to claim 1 , comprising determining an offset from said start of said particular message, wherein said desired data starts at said offset.

     7. The method according to claim 6 , comprising configuring said programmable hardware filter module with said determined offset.

     8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said variable offset is specified by bytes.

     9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said variable offset is specified by bits.

     10. The method according to claim 1 , wherein at least one said variable offset is stored in a table in memory.

     11. A machine-readable storage having stored thereon, a computer program having at least one code section for processing messages in a data stream, the at least one code section being executable by a machine for causing the machine to perform steps comprising:
filtering desired data located at a variable offset from a start of a particular message in a data stream using a programmable hardware filter module, wherein said programmable hardware filter module is operable to:
start said filtering only from an offset corresponding to said start of said desired data; and
utilize both an inclusion mask and an exclusion mask for matching during said filtering.

     12. The machine-readable storage according to claim 11 , wherein said programmable hardware filter module is a variable length filter.

     13. The machine-readable storage according to claim 12 , wherein a length of said variable length filter is configured to be a length of said desired data, and said variable length filter is aligned with said desired data using said variable offset.

     14. The machine-readable storage according to claim 11 , wherein said programmable hardware filter module is a fixed length filter.

     15. The machine-readable storage according to claim 14 , wherein said fixed length filter is aligned with said desired data using said variable offset.

     16. The machine-readable storage according to claim 11 , comprising code for determining an offset from said start of said particular message, wherein said desired data starts at said offset.

     17. The machine-readable storage according to claim 16 , comprising code for configuring said programmable hardware filter module with said determined offset.

     18. The machine-readable storage according to claim 11 , wherein said variable offset is specified by bytes.

     19. The machine-readable storage according to claim 11 , wherein said variable offset is specified by bits.

     20. The machine-readable storage according to claim 11 , wherein at least one said variable offset is stored in a table in memory.
