Abstract
In order to build a convenient printing environment which can meet various needs associated with double-sided printing (e.g., a reduction of the load on the operator) from users upon double-sided printing and can cope with the POD environment, a user request associated with a double-sided printing job to be executed by a printing system which includes a printing apparatus that can execute a double-sided printing operation is accepted from the user via a user interface unit. When the user request accepted via the user interface unit is a specific user request, the printing apparatus is controlled to execute a series of double-sided printing operations using a function of adjusting a printing position of data to be printed on one of first side and second side of a printing medium in the double-sided printing job to be processed.

a printing unit configured to execute a double-sided printing job for printing an image on a first side and a second side of a sheet;
a setting unit configured to set an adjustment value for adjusting a positional relationship of the image to be printed on the first side and the image to be printed on the second side of the sheet;
a control unit configured to control said printing unit to adjust the positional relationship of the image to be printed on the first side and the image to be printed on the second side of the sheet based on the adjustment value set by said setting unit when said printing unit executes a first double-sided printing job; and
a selecting unit configured to select whether or not said printing unit uses the adjustment value set by said setting unit for a second double-sided printing job which is executed after said printing unit executes the first double-sided printing job,
wherein, if said selecting unit selects to use the adjustment value for the second double-sided printing job, said control unit controls said printing unit to adjust the positional relationship of the image to be printed on the first side and the image to be printed on the second side of the sheet based on the adjustment value set by said setting unit when said printing unit executes the second double-sided printing job,
wherein said setting unit sets the adjustment value after said printing unit prints images on a number of pages from the first double-sided printing job, and, if the adjustment value is set by said setting unit, said control unit controls said printing unit to adjust the positional relationship of the image to be printed on the first side and the image to be printed on the second side of the sheet based on the adjustment value set by said setting unit and to print the image again from the image for the first page of the first double-sided printing job.
2. A printing system according to claim 1 , wherein said setting unit sets the adjustment value for adjusting a position of the image to be printed on the first side of the sheet.
3. A printing system according to claim 1 , wherein said setting unit sets the adjustment value for adjusting a position of the image to be printed on the second side of the sheet.
4. A printing system according to claim 1 , further comprising a determination unit configured to determine whether or not the positional relationship of the image to be printed on the first side and the image to be printed on the second side of the sheet is to be adjusted when said printing unit executes the first double-sided printing job, wherein said setting unit sets the adjustment value if said determination unit determines to adjust the positional relationship.
5. A control method for a printing system which comprises a printing unit that executes a double-sided printing job for printing an image on a first side and a second side of a sheet, comprising:
a setting step of setting an adjustment value for adjusting a positional relationship of the image to be printed on the first side and the image to be printed on the second side of the sheet;
a first control step of controlling the printing unit to adjust the positional relationship of the image to be printed on the first side and the image to be printed on the second side of the sheet based on the adjustment value set at said setting step when the printing unit executes a first double-sided printing job;
a selection step of selecting whether or not the printing unit uses the adjustment value set at said setting step for a second double-sided printing job which is executed after the printing unit executed the first double-sided printing job; and,
a second control step of, if to use the adjustment value for the second double-sided printing job is selected at said selection step, controlling the printing unit to adjust the positional relationship of the image to be printed on the first side and the image to be printed on the second side of the sheet based on the adjustment value set at said setting step when the printing unit executes the second double-sided printing job,
wherein the adjustment value is set at said setting step after the printing unit prints images on a number of pages from the first double-sided printing job, and, if the adjustment value is set at said setting step, the printing unit is controlled at said first control step to adjust the positional relationship of the image to be printed on the first side and the image to be printed on the second side of the sheet based on the adjustment value set at said setting step and to print the image again from the image for the first page of the first double-sided printing job.
6. A control method according to claim 5 , wherein the adjustment value for adjusting a position of the image to be printed on the first side of the sheet is set at said setting step.
7. A control method according to claim 5 , wherein the adjustment value for adjusting a position of the image to be printed on the second side of the sheet is set at said setting step.
8. A control method according to claim 5 , further comprising a determination step of determining whether or not the positional relationship of the image to be printed on the first side and the image to be printed on the second side of the sheet is to be adjusted when said printing unit executes the first double-sided printing job, wherein the adjustment value is set at setting step if adjustment of the positional relationship is determined at said determination step.Cited by (0)
