Abstract

The present invention relates to a method of reducing risk of recurrent urethritis or recurrent cystitis comprises administering to a patient with risk of recurrent urethritis or recurrent cystitis an effective amount of a composition consisting essentially of astilbin and chlorogenic acid.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. A method for treating recurrent urethritis or recurrent cystitis consisting essentially of administering to a patient in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of  smilax glabra  rhizome extracted astilibin and  Flos Lonicerae  extracted chlorogenic acid. 
     
     
       2. The method of  claim 1 , wherein the  smilax glabra  rhizome extract inhibits the activity of matrix metalloproteinases. 
     
     
       3. The method of  claim 1 , wherein the  Flos Lonicerae  extract modulates macrophage function. 
     
     
       4. The method of  claim 1 , wherein the extracts are administered in a form selected from the group consisting of tablet, capsule, granule and sachet bag. 
     
     
       5. A method for treating recurrent urethritis or recurrent cystitis consisting essentially of administering to a patient in need thereof a therapeutically effective amount of  smilax glabra  rhizome extracted astilibin and  Flos Lonicerae  extracted chlorogenic acid and an extract selected from the group consisting of cranberry extract, cloudberry extract, raspberry extract, strawberry extract,  vitis vinifera  extract,  hibiscus sabdariffa  extract and grape seed extract.
