Image recording device

Abstract

An image recording device includes a tray unit, a sheet feeder disposed above the tray unit, a recording unit disposed above the sheet feeder, and a unit for discharging the sheet having as image recorded thereon. The tray unit includes a first tray for holding thereon a first sheet, a second tray disposed above the first tray to hold thereon a second sheet, and a third tray disposed above the first tray. The second tray selectively moves between a first position and a second position. When the second tray is in the first position, the sheet feeder feeds the second sheet from the second tray, and the third tray receives the second sheet discharged from the discharging unit. When the second tray is in the second position, the sheet feeder feeds the first sheet from the first tray, and the first tray, the second tray, and the third tray overlap one another vertically.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. An image recording device comprising:
 a feed tray comprising a holding surface configured to hold thereon a sheet: 
 a sheet feeder disposed above the feed tray and configured to feed the sheet from the feed tray in a first direction; 
 a recording unit disposed above the sheet feeder and configured to record an image on the sheet fed by the sheet feeder; 
 a discharging unit configured to discharge the sheet after the recording unit records the image on the sheet; 
 a discharge tray comprising a receiving surface configured to receive the sheet discharged by the discharging unit; and 
 a cover disposed on the feed tray and covering an upstream side of the feed tray in the first direction, the cover comprising a first surface which faces away from the holding surface of the feed tray, 
 wherein the discharge tray is configured to, in a state where the cover is stationary relative to the feed tray, move between a first position in which the discharge tray exposes the first surface of the cover, and a second position in which the discharge tray covers the first surface of the cover, 
 wherein the receiving surface of the discharge tray faces away from the holding surface of the feed tray both when the discharge tray is in the first position and when the discharge tray is in the second position, and 
 wherein the receiving surface of the discharge tray is configured to receive the sheet discharged by the discharging unit when the discharge tray is in the second position. 
 
     
     
       2. The image recording device according to  claim 1 , wherein a distance from the holding surface of the feed tray to the discharge tray in the first position is different from a distance from the holding surface of the feed tray to the discharge tray in the second position. 
     
     
       3. The image recording device according to  claim 2 , wherein the distance from the holding surface of the feed tray to the discharge tray in the second position is greater than the distance from the holding surface of the feed tray to the discharge tray in the first position. 
     
     
       4. The image recording device according to  claim 1 , wherein the discharge tray in the first position and the discharge tray in the second position are displaced from each other in the first direction. 
     
     
       5. The image recording device according to  claim 4 , wherein when the discharge tray is in the second position, an upstream end of the discharge tray in the first direction is more upstream than when the discharge tray is in the first position. 
     
     
       6. The image recording device according to  claim 1 , further comprising a main body, wherein the feed tray is configured to slide, relative to the main body, along the first direction unitarily with the cover. 
     
     
       7. The image recording device according to  claim 1 , wherein the discharge tray is coupled to the feed tray. 
     
     
       8. An image recording device comprising:
 a feed tray comprising a holding surface configured to hold thereon a sheet: 
 a sheet feeder disposed above the feed tray and configured to feed the sheet from the feed tray in a first direction; 
 a recording unit disposed above the sheet feeder and configured to record an image on the sheet fed by the sheet feeder; 
 a discharging unit configured to discharge the sheet after the recording unit records the image on the sheet; 
 a discharge tray comprising a receiving surface configured to receive the sheet discharged by the discharging unit; 
 a cover disposed on the feed tray and covering an upstream side of the feed tray in the first direction, the cover comprising a first surface which faces away from the holding surface of the feed tray, 
 wherein the discharge tray is configured to, in a state where the cover is stationary relative to the feed tray, move between a first position in which the discharge tray exposes the first surface of the cover, and a second position in which the discharge tray covers the first surface of the cover, and 
 wherein the receiving surface of the discharge tray faces away from the holding surface of the feed tray both when the discharge tray is in the first position and when the discharge tray is in the second position; and 
 a guide member configured to guide a movement of the discharge tray, wherein the discharge tray comprises an engagement portion engaged with the guide member and configured to move between two positions displaced from each other in the first direction when the discharge tray guided by the guide member moves between the first position and the second position. 
 
     
     
       9. The image recording device according to  claim 8 , wherein the engagement portion is disposed at an end of the discharge tray in a second direction which is perpendicular to the first direction and parallel to the holding surface of the feed tray. 
     
     
       10. An image recording device comprising:
 a feed tray comprising a holding surface configured to hold thereon a sheet: 
 a sheet feeder disposed above the feed tray and configured to feed the sheet from the feed tray in a first direction; 
 a recording unit disposed above the sheet feeder and configured to record an image on the sheet fed by the sheet feeder; 
 a discharging unit configured to discharge the sheet after the recording unit records the image on the sheet; 
 a discharge tray comprising a receiving surface configured to receive the sheet discharged by the discharging unit, and 
 a cover disposed on the feed tray and covering an upstream side of the feed tray in the first direction, 
 wherein the discharge tray is configured to move, relative to the feed tray, between a first position and a second position such that: 
 when the discharge tray is in the second position, an upstream end of the discharge tray in the first direction is more upstream and farther from the holding surface of the feed tray than when the discharge tray is in the first position, 
 the upstream end of the discharge tray is in contact with the feed tray when the discharge tray is in the first position, and is separate from the feed tray when the discharge tray is in the second position, and 
 the receiving surface of the discharge tray faces away from the holding surface of the feed tray both when the discharge tray is in the first position and when the discharge tray is in the second position. 
 
     
     
       11. The image recording device according to  claim 10 , wherein the discharge tray is configured to be supported on the cover when the discharge tray is in the second position, such that the upstream end of the discharge tray is separate from the feed tray. 
     
     
       12. The image recording device according to  claim 10 , further comprising a guide member configured to guide a movement of the discharge tray, wherein the discharge tray comprises an engagement portion engaged with the guide member and configured to move between two positions displaced from each other in the first direction when the discharge tray guided by the guide member moves between the first position and the second position. 
     
     
       13. The image recording device according to  claim 12 , wherein the engagement portion is disposed at an end of the discharge tray in a second direction which is perpendicular to the first direction and parallel to the holding surface of the feed tray. 
     
     
       14. The image recording device according to  claim 10 , further comprising a main body, wherein the feed tray is configured to slide, relative to the main body, along the first direction unitarily with the cover. 
     
     
       15. The image recording device according to  claim 10 , wherein the discharge tray is coupled to the feed tray. 
     
     
       16. The image recording device according to  claim 10 , wherein the receiving surface of the discharge tray is configured to receive the sheet discharged by the discharging unit when the discharge tray is in the second position.
