Image forming apparatus and display unit of an image forming apparatus

Abstract

In a case where a display unit displays a setting screen having a first display area to display a draft graphical image in accordance with draft setting and a second display area to display a finished graphical image in accordance with sheet setting, and a user designates a position to be stapled, a staple region mark is superimposed and displayed on a region corresponding to the position to be stapled in the draft graphical image in accordance with the draft setting, and a staple position mark is superimposed and displayed on a position corresponding to the position to be stapled in the finished graphical image in accordance with the sheet setting.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. A method of displaying on a display unit of an image forming apparatus settings of the image forming apparatus, comprising:
 displaying on the display unit a graphical image of a sheet facing the same direction as a draft set on an auto document feeder, the graphical image of the sheet showing a sheet open direction when double-sided printing is set; 
 displaying on the display unit a plurality of icons for setting a staple position; 
 displaying a mark indicating a staple position according to a selected icon on the graphical image of the sheet showing the sheet open direction when double sided printing is set; and 
 when the staple position according to the selected icon is incompatible with the sheet open direction, displaying a guidance message. 
 
     
     
       2. The method according to  claim 1 , wherein the display unit comprises a touch panel and the selection is made by touching a graphic displayed on the touch panel. 
     
     
       3. The method according to  claim 1 , wherein the display unit further displays user selectable options to change an orientation of the sheet. 
     
     
       4. The method according to  claim 3 , wherein options selected to change the orientation of the sheet causes a corresponding change in the display. 
     
     
       5. The method according to  claim 4 , wherein a change from portrait orientation to landscape orientation causes the graphical image of the sheet to be displayed in the landscape orientation and the staple mark to be displayed on the graphical image of the sheet in the landscape orientation. 
     
     
       6. The method according to  claim 4 , wherein a change from landscape orientation to portrait orientation causes the graphical image of the sheet to be displayed in the portrait orientation and the staple mark to be displayed on the graphical image of the sheet in portrait orientation. 
     
     
       7. The method according to  claim 1 , wherein the staple mark comprises a short diagonal line. 
     
     
       8. An image forming apparatus comprising:
 a scanner that reads an image of a draft; 
 a printer that prints the image of the draft on a sheet; 
 a staple unit that staples sheets having printed images when a staple setting is selected; 
 a display unit; and 
 a display control unit configured
 to display on the display unit a graphical image of the sheet facing the same direction as the draft set on an auto document feeder, the graphical image of the sheet showing a sheet open direction when double-sided printing is set, 
 to display on the display unit a plurality of icons for setting a staple position, 
 to display a mark indicating a staple position according to a selected icon on the graphical image of the sheet showing the sheet open direction when double-sided printing is set, and 
 to display on the display unit a guidance message when the staple position according to the selected icon is incompatible with the sheet open direction. 
 
 
     
     
       9. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 8 , wherein the display unit includes a touch panel, and the plurality of icons are displayed on the touch panel and selected using the touch panel. 
     
     
       10. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 9 , wherein the staple mark comprises a short diagonal line. 
     
     
       11. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 9 , wherein the touch panel further displays user selectable options to change an orientation of the sheet. 
     
     
       12. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 11 , wherein a change from portrait orientation to landscape orientation causes the graphical image of the sheet to be displayed in the landscape orientation and the staple mark to be displayed on the graphical image of the sheet in the landscape orientation. 
     
     
       13. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 11 , wherein a change from landscape orientation to portrait orientation causes the graphical image of the sheet to be displayed in the portrait orientation and the staple mark to be displayed on the graphical image of the sheet in the portrait orientation.
