Abstract
The present specification discloses an immunogenic composition comprising polypeptide, wherein each of the polypeptides has no more than 100 amino acids, which polypeptides comprises one or more sequences having at least 60% homology with any of SEQ ID 1-4, or comprises two or more epitopes having 7 amino acids or more, each epitope having at least 60% homology with a sub-sequence of any of SEQ ID 1-4 that has the same length as the epitope, wherein, the polypeptide is immunogenic in a vertebrate expressing a major histocompatibility complex (MHC) allele, and wherein the polypeptide is not a complete HIV virus protein.

1. An immunogenic composition to elicit an immune response against HIV disease, the composition comprising four isolated polypeptides, wherein the four isolated polypeptides are SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 3, and SEQ ID NO: 4 and wherein each of the four isolated polypeptides elicits an immune response in vertebrates against at least one epitope of a HIV protein comprising SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 2, SEQ ID NO: 3, or SEQ ID NO: 4.
2. The immunogenic composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition is immunogenic in a vertebrate expressing a major histocompatibility complex (MHC) allele.
3. The immunogenic composition according to claim 2 , wherein the vertebrate is a human.
4. The immunogenic composition according to claim 1 , which is immunogenic to an HIV strain.
5. The immunogenic composition according to claim 1 , which is immunogenic to a plurality of HIV strains.
6. The immunogenic composition according to claim 1 , wherein each of the four isolated polypeptides comprises a cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL), CD8+ T cell and/or CD4+ T cell epitope.
7. The immunogenic composition according to claim 6 , wherein the epitope has 8, 9 10 or 11 amino acids or more.
8. The immunogenic composition according to claim 1 , wherein each of the four isolated polypeptides is in a dose of 1 ng to 1 g.
9. The immunogenic composition according to claim 1 , further comprising a carrier.
10. The immunogenic composition of claim 9 , wherein the carrier comprises an adjuvant and/or an excipient.
11. The immunogenic composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition is administered subcutaneously, intramuscular, intra-venous, intra-dermal, intra-nasal or orally.
12. The immunogenic composition according to claim 1 , wherein the composition is in the form of a pill or a liquid preparation.
13. An immunogenic composition to elicit an immune response against HIV disease, the composition comprising an isolated immunogenic multi-epitope polypeptide including two or more polypeptide units, each polypeptide unit having no more than 50 amino acids, wherein one of the two or more polypeptide units comprises SEQ ID NO: 2 and another of the two or more polypeptide units comprises SEQ ID NO: 1, SEQ ID NO: 3, or SEQ ID NO: 4.
14. The immunogenic composition according to claim 13 , wherein the isolated multi-epitope polypeptide is immunogenic in a vertebrate expressing a major histocompatibility complex (MHC) allele.
15. The immunogenic composition according to claim 14 , wherein the vertebrate is a human.
16. The immunogenic composition according to claim 13 , which is immunogenic to an HIV strain.
17. The immunogenic composition according to claim 13 , which is immunogenic to a plurality of HIV strains.
18. The immunogenic composition according to claim 13 , wherein the two or more polypeptide units comprises multiple copies of the same epitope, a single copy of a plurality of different epitopes, or multiple copies of two or more epitopes.
19. The immunogenic composition according to claim 13 , wherein the two or more polypeptide units comprises a cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL), CD8+ T cell and/or CD4+ T cell epitope.
20. The immunogenic composition according to claim 13 , wherein the two or more polypeptide units comprises an epitope of 8, 9, 10 or 11 amino acids or more.
21. The immunogenic composition according to claim 13 , wherein the isolated multi-epitope polypeptide is in a dose of 1 ng to 1 g.
22. The immunogenic composition according to claim 13 , further comprising a carrier.
23. The immunogenic composition of claim 22 , wherein the carrier comprises an adjuvant and/or an excipient.
