Abstract

An apparatus, method, and system for filtering an Internet Protocol (IP) packet in a mobile communication terminal are provided. The method includes receiving an IP packet from a network, determining whether the received IP packet is an IP packet unallowable by an application Central Processing Unit (CPU), and when the received IP packet is determined to be an IP packet unallowable by the application CPU, generating an IP packet indicating that the received IP packet is unallowable and transmitting the generated IP packet to the network.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

       1. A method comprising:
 receiving, at a first electronic device including a first processor and a second processor, using the first processor, a message from a second electronic device via a communication channel established between the first electronic device and the second electronic device;
determining, using the first processor, a first determination that the message corresponds to at least one of a first set of one or more port numbers designated as unallowable by the second processor, or a second determination that the message does not correspond to any one of a second set of port numbers designated as allowable by the second processor; and
releasing, using the first processor, one or more resources associated with the communication channel based on the first determination or the second determination.

       2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining comprises:
obtaining one or more ports numbers from the message.

       3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the releasing comprises:
transmitting a request to release the one or more resources from the first electronic device to the second electronic device.

       4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the releasing comprises:
refraining from transmitting the message to the second processor.

       5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the releasing comprises:
discarding the message from the first processor.

       6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining comprises:
receiving, at the first processor, at least one of the first set or the second set from the second processor.

       7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving a paging message from the second electronic device to establish the communication channel.

       8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:
transitioning the first processor from an idle state to a connection state based at least in part on the receiving of the paging message.

       9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the releasing comprises:
forwarding the message to the second processor based on a third determination that the message does not correspond to any one of the first set, or a fourth determination that the message corresponds to at least one of the second set.

       10. An apparatus comprising:
a first processor to establish a communication channel between the apparatus and an electronic device external to the apparatus; and
a second processor to transmit one or more port numbers to the first processor,
wherein the first processor is configured to receive a message transmitted from the electronic device via the communication channel, to determine a first determination that the message corresponds to at least one of a first set of one or more port numbers designated as unallowable by the second processor, or a second determination that the message does not correspond to any one of a second set of port numbers designated as allowable by the second processor, and to release one or more resources associated with the communication channel based on the first determination or the second determination.

       11. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first processor is configured to:
transition from a first state to a second state based on the first determination or the second determination, a power consumption by the first processor in the first state being higher than that by the first processor in the second state.

       12. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first processor comprises at least a portion of a modem.

       13. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first processor is configured to:
transmit a request to release the one or more resources to the electronic device.

       14. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first processor is configured to:
compare at least a portion of the message with at least one of the first set or the second set.

       15. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first processor is configured to:
receive at least one of the first set or the second set from the second processor.

       16. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the first processor is configured to:
determine the first determination or the second determination based at least in part on the second processor being in a sleep state.

       17. The apparatus of claim 10 , further comprising:
memory to store at least one of the first set or the second set.

       18. A modem comprising:
a processor to establish a communication channel across a network between the modem and an electronic device external to the modem, the processor configured to:
 receive a message transmitted from the electronic device via the communication channel;
determine a first determination that the message corresponds to at least one of a first set of one or more port numbers designated as unallowable by another processor external to the modem, or a second determination that the message does not correspond to any one of a second set of one or more port numbers designated as allowable by the other processor; and
release one or more resources associated with the communication channel based on the first determination or the second determination.

       19. The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein at least one portion of the memory comprises a dual ported random access memory.

       20. The modem of claim 19 , further comprising:
memory to store the first set or the second set.
