Abstract

The invention provides a compound conforming to the structure of Formula (C) The invention also provides a thermoplastic polymer composition comprising a polyolefin polymer and a compound conforming to the structure of Formula (C) as a nucleating agent.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. A compound of Formula (C) 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       wherein R 101  is selected from the group consisting of a cyclopentyl group and moieties of Formula (CI); Formula (CI) is 
       
         
           
           
               
               
           
         
       
       R 105  is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and halogens; x is a positive integer; each M 1  is a metal cation; y is the valence of the cation; z is a positive integer; b is zero or a positive integer; when b is a positive integer, each Q 1  is a negatively-charged counterion and a is the valence of the negatively-charged counterion; and the values of x, y, z, a, and b satisfy the equation x+(ab)=yz. 
     
     
       2. The compound of  claim 1 , wherein M 1  is a cation of a metal selected from the group consisting of alkali metals and alkaline earth metals. 
     
     
       3. The compound of  claim 2 , wherein M 1  is a cation of a metal selected from the group consisting of alkali metals. 
     
     
       4. The compound of  claim 3 , wherein M 1  is a lithium cation. 
     
     
       5. The compound of  claim 1 , wherein R 101  is a cyclopentyl group. 
     
     
       6. The compound of  claim 5 , wherein x is 1, M 1  is a lithium cation, y is 1, z is 1, and b is zero. 
     
     
       7. The compound of  claim 1 , wherein R 101  is a moiety conforming to the structure of Formula (CI). 
     
     
       8. The compound of  claim 7 , wherein R 105  is hydrogen. 
     
     
       9. The compound of  claim 8 , wherein x is 1, M 1  is a lithium cation, y is 1, z is 1, and b is zero. 
     
     
       10. The compound of  claim 7 , wherein R 105  is a halogen. 
     
     
       11. The compound of  claim 10 , wherein R 105  is bromine. 
     
     
       12. The compound of  claim 11 , wherein x is 1, M 1  is a lithium cation, y is 1, z is 1, and b is zero. 
     
     
       13. A composition comprising a polyolefin polymer and the compound of  claim 1 . 
     
     
       14. A composition comprising a polyolefin polymer and the compound of  claim 4 . 
     
     
       15. A composition comprising a polyolefin polymer and the compound of  claim 6 . 
     
     
       16. A composition comprising a polyolefin polymer and the compound of  claim 7 . 
     
     
       17. A composition comprising a polyolefin polymer and the compound of  claim 9 . 
     
     
       18. A composition comprising a polyolefin polymer and the compound of  claim 10 . 
     
     
       19. A composition comprising a polyolefin polymer and the compound of  claim 12 .
