Abstract

A system and method for providing a user interface that allows users to change the active line on which an outgoing call may be placed. In example embodiments, upon detecting call screen interaction a line selection menu is displayed. The line selection menu contains a plurality of line identifiers, each line identifier uniquely identifying a corresponding one of the multiple communication lines accessible at the mobile device. A system and method is also presented for providing a call log for identifying call activity associated with a plurality of communication lines.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
The invention claimed is:

       1. A method of providing on a mobile device a call log for identifying call activity, the method comprising:
 at the mobile device comprising a display, a communication subsystem, and a processor configured for voice communication on a plurality of communication lines via the communication subsystem, each of the plurality of communication lines associated with a unique telephone number,
 displaying a call screen on the display;
 displaying call log data within a call log field in the call screen;
 wherein the call log data comprises a plurality of call log entries; and
 wherein each call log entry comprises:
 call data corresponding to a third party telephone number; and
 a line icon that uniquely identifies one of the plurality of communication lines, wherein the one of the plurality of communication lines is the communication line on which voice communication to the third party telephone number was provided.

       2. The method of claim 1 , wherein each call log entry comprises a call activity icon that uniquely identifies a calling activity.

       3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the calling activity is selected from the group consisting of:
 placing an outgoing call,
 answering an incoming call, and
 missing an incoming call.

       4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 detecting selection of one of a plurality of call log categories, wherein each call log category corresponds to one of the plurality of communication lines; and
 in response to detecting the selection of one of the plurality of call log categories, filtering the plurality of call log entries to identify the call entries corresponding to the call log category that is selected.

       5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising displaying, within the call log field in the call screen, each call log entry corresponding to the call log category that is selected.

       6. The method of claim 4 , further comprising:
 detecting selection of a further call log category, wherein the further call log category corresponds to all of the communication lines;
 in response to detecting the selection of the further call log category:
 filtering the plurality of call log entries to identify the call entries corresponding to the further call log category; and,
 displaying, within the call log field in the call screen, all the call log entries.

       7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
 grouping the call log entries by line icon and,
 displaying, within the call log field in the call screen, the grouped call log entries.

       8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:
 displaying, in the call screen, a plurality of buttons, each button associated with one of the plurality of communication lines; and
 in response to detecting selection of a respective one of the plurality of buttons, displaying, within the call log field in the call screen, the group of call log entries having the line icon corresponding to the selected communication line first.

       9. The method as claimed in claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of communication lines is suitable for placing an outgoing telephone call.

       10. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions executable on a processor of the mobile device for implementing the method of claim 1 .

       11. A system for providing a call log for identifying call activity associated with a plurality of communication lines on a mobile device, the mobile device providing access to a plurality of communication lines suitable for making outgoing calls by a user, the mobile device comprising a processor, a display, and at least one input device, wherein the system is configured to execute an application programmed to perform the method as claimed in claim 1 .

       12. A mobile device comprising a processor, a display, and at least one input device, wherein the mobile device is configured to access a plurality of communication lines, and wherein the processor is configured to execute an application programmed to:
 displaying a call screen on the display of the mobile device;
 displaying call log data within a call log field in the call screen;
 wherein the call log data comprises a plurality of call log entries;
 wherein each call log entry comprises:
 call data corresponding to a third party telephone number and
 a line icon that uniquely identifies one of the plurality of communication lines, wherein the one of the plurality of communication lines is the communication line on which voice communication to the third party telephone number was provided.

       13. The device of claim 12 , wherein each of the plurality of communication lines is suitable for making outgoing telephone calls.

       14. The device of claim 12 , wherein each call log entry comprises a call activity icon that uniquely identifies a calling activity.

       15. The device of claim 14 , wherein the calling activity is selected from the group consisting of:
 placing an outgoing call,
 answering an incoming call, and
 missing an incoming call.

       16. The device of claim 12 , wherein the processor is further configured to:
 receive an input indicative of selection one of a plurality of call log categories, wherein each call log category corresponds to one of the plurality of communication lines; and
 in response to receipt of the input, filtering the plurality of call log entries to identify the call entries corresponding to the call log category that is selected.

       17. The device of claim 16 , wherein the processor is further configured to display, within the call log field in the call screen, each call log entry corresponding to the call log category that is selected.

       18. The device of claim 16 , wherein the processor is further configured to:
 receive a further input indicative of selection a further call log category, wherein the further call log category corresponds to all of the communication lines;
 in response to receipt of the further input:
 filter the plurality of call log entries to identify the call entries corresponding to the further call log category; and,
 display, within the call log field in the call screen, all the call log entries.
