Abstract

Embodiments of the invention include storing musical elements in a database and processing performance data, where the musical elements including a plurality of reference accent pattern data and a plurality of reference system pattern data. Processing performance data can include receiving input data corresponding to a musical performance, determining an accent pattern for the musical performance, matching the accent pattern data to one or more reference accent pattern data in the database, and selecting one of the matching reference accent patterns. Processing performance data further includes receiving input corresponding to a selection of a musical style, one or more musical performance parameters, and generating a musical accompaniment based on the processed performance data, the selected musical style, and the selected one or more musical performance.

Claims

 matching the accent pattern data to one or more reference accent pattern data in the database; and
 selecting one of the matching reference accent patterns; and

 generating a musical accompaniment using the processed performance data, wherein the musical accompaniment includes a plurality of musical elements configured in a predetermined sequence.

       2. The method of claim 1 further comprising:
 receiving input corresponding to:
 a selection of a musical style; and
 one or more musical performance parameters,

 wherein generating a musical accompaniment further includes the selected musical style, and the selected one or more musical performance parameters.

       3. The method of claim 2 wherein the musical performance parameters includes one or more of:
 intensity;
 complexity;
 swing; and
 focus.

       4. The method of claim 2 further comprising:
 processing musical arrangement data including markers indicating:
 a track; and
 one or more of a verse, chorus, bridge, break, into, or outro, wherein generating the musical accompaniment is further based on the musical arrangement data.

       5. The method of claim 2 wherein the musical accompaniment is a percussion-based musical accompaniment.

       6. The method of claim 1 wherein the database further includes:
 fills data;
 micro-timing data; and
 micro-dynamics data.

       7. The method of claim 6 wherein each of the plurality of musical elements are arranged with respect to a time-based reference, and wherein the micro-timing data includes instructions indicating time-shifting one or more musical elements with respect to the time-based reference.

       8. A computer-implemented system, comprising:
 one or more processors;
 one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage mediums containing instructions configured to cause the one or more processors to perform operations including:
 storing musical elements in a database, the musical elements including a plurality of reference accent pattern data;
 processing performance data including:
 receiving input data corresponding to a musical performance;
 determining an accent pattern for the musical performance;
 matching the accent pattern data to one or more reference accent pattern data in the database; and
 selecting one of the matching reference accent patterns; and

 generating a musical accompaniment using the processed performance data, wherein the musical accompaniment includes a plurality of musical elements configured in a predetermined sequence.

       9. The system of claim 8 further comprising instructions configured to cause the one or more processors to perform operations including:
 receiving input corresponding to:
 a selection of a musical style; and
 one or more musical performance parameters,

 wherein generating a musical accompaniment further includes the selected musical style, and the selected one or more musical performance parameters.

       10. The system of claim 9 wherein the musical performance parameters includes one or more of:
 intensity;
 complexity;
 swing; and
 groove.

       11. The system of claim 9 further comprising instructions configured to cause the one or more processors to perform operations including:
 processing musical arrangement data including markers indicating:
 a track; and
 one or more of a verse, chorus, bridge, break, into, or outro, wherein generating the musical accompaniment is further based on the musical arrangement data.

       12. The system of claim 9 wherein the musical accompaniment is a percussion-based musical accompaniment.

       13. The system of claim 8 wherein the database further includes:
 fills data;
 micro-timing data; and
 micro-dynamics data.

       14. The system of claim 13 wherein each of the plurality of musical elements are arranged with respect to a time-based reference, and wherein the micro-timing data includes instructions indicating time-shifting one or more musical elements with respect to the time-based reference.

       15. A computer program product stored on a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising computer-executable instructions causing a processor to:
 store musical elements in a database, the musical elements including a plurality of reference accent pattern data process performance data including:
 receiving input data corresponding to a musical performance;
 determining an accent pattern for the musical performance;
 matching the accent pattern data to one or more reference accent pattern data in the database; and
 selecting one of the matching reference accent patterns; and
