Abstract
A construction machine for the treatment of ground surfaces includes a machine frame, a drive motor, a work drum supported from the machine frame and including exchangeable tools fastened to the work drum, a belt drive and an auxiliary drive. The belt drive includes a motor-side pulley connected to the drive motor, a drum-side pulley connected to the work drum, and at least one drive belt connecting the motor-side pulley to the drum-side pulley. The auxiliary drive may be permanently coupled to the belt drive, or the auxiliary drive may include an adjustment mechanism for moving the auxiliary drive between a coupled and an uncoupled position.

a machine frame;
a drive motor;
a work drum supported from the machine frame and including exchangeable tools fastened to the work drum;
a belt drive including:
a motor-side pulley connected to the drive motor;
a drum-side pulley connected to the work drum;
at least one drive belt connecting the motor-side pulley to the drum-side pulley; and
a drive coupling connecting the motor-side pulley to the drive motor, the drive coupling being configured to decouple the motor-side pulley from the drive motor; and
an auxiliary drive configured to be engaged with the drive coupling so that the auxiliary drive can rotate the work drum in a raised condition of the work drum.
2. The construction machine of claim 1 , wherein:
the drive coupling indirectly connects the motor-side pulley to the drive motor via an intervening component.
3. The construction machine of claim 1 , wherein:
the drive coupling includes a drive coupling motor side coupling element and a drive coupling drive side coupling element; and
the auxiliary drive is configured to be engaged with the drive coupling drive side coupling element.
4. The construction machine of claim 3 , wherein:
the auxiliary drive has a coupled configuration and an uncoupled configuration, and in the coupled configuration the auxiliary drive is engaged with the drive coupling drive side coupling element.
5. The construction machine of claim 4 , wherein:
the auxiliary drive includes a friction roller for engaging the drive coupling drive side coupling element in the coupled configuration.
6. The construction machine of claim 4 , wherein:
the auxiliary drive includes a gear wheel for engaging the drive coupling drive side coupling element in the coupled configuration.
7. The construction machine of claim 1 , wherein the auxiliary drive further comprises an electric motor.
8. The construction machine of claim 1 , wherein the auxiliary drive further comprises a hydraulic motor.
9. The construction machine of claim 1 , wherein the auxiliary drive further comprises a pneumatic motor.
10. The construction machine of claim 1 , wherein the auxiliary drive is operable only in a switched-off or decoupled state of the drive motor.
11. A construction machine for the treatment of ground surfaces, comprising:
a machine frame;
a drive motor;
a work drum supported from the machine frame and including exchangeable tools fastened to the work drum;
a belt drive including:
a motor-side pulley;
a drive coupling connecting the motor-side pulley to the drive motor, the drive coupling being configured to decouple the motor-side pulley from the drive motor;
a drum-side pulley connected to the work drum; and
at least one drive belt connecting the motor-side pulley to the drum-side pulley; and
an auxiliary drive configured to be coupled to the drive coupling, the auxiliary drive including an auxiliary drive motor and an adjustment mechanism, the adjustment mechanism being moveable between a coupled position wherein the auxiliary drive is engaged with the drive coupling and can rotate the work drum in a raised condition of the work drum and a decoupled position wherein the auxiliary drive cannot rotate the work drum.
12. The construction machine of claim 11 , wherein:
the drive coupling indirectly connects the motor-side pulley to the drive motor via an intervening component.
13. The construction machine of claim 11 , wherein:
the drive coupling includes a drive coupling motor side coupling element and a drive coupling drive side coupling element; and
in the coupled position the auxiliary drive is engaged with the drive coupling drive side coupling element.
14. The construction machine of claim 13 , wherein:
the auxiliary drive includes a friction roller for engaging the drive coupling drive side coupling element.
15. The construction machine of claim 13 , wherein:
the auxiliary drive includes a gear wheel for engaging the drive coupling drive side coupling element.
16. The construction machine of claim 11 , wherein the auxiliary drive further comprises an electric motor.
17. The construction machine of claim 11 , wherein the auxiliary drive further comprises a hydraulic motor.
18. The construction machine of claim 11 , wherein the auxiliary drive further comprises a pneumatic motor.
19. The construction machine of claim 11 , wherein the auxiliary drive comprises a safety circuit for switching off or decoupling the auxiliary drive when a preset moment of resistance is reached.
20. The construction machine of claim 11 , wherein the auxiliary drive is operable only in a switched-off or decoupled state of the drive motor.
21. The construction machine of claim 11 , wherein:
the auxiliary drive has a torque output in the range of 10% to 30% higher than the moment of inertia of the work drum and of the part of the drive line moved along with the work drum in the switched-off or decoupled state of the drive motor.
22. A method of operating a construction machine for the treatment of ground surfaces, the construction machine including a machine frame, a drive motor mounted on the machine frame, a work drum supported from the machine frame, a plurality of exchangeable tools mounted on the work drum, a drive line connected to the work drum, a drive coupling connecting the drive motor to the drive line, and an auxiliary drive operably mounted on the machine and engageable with the drive coupling, the method comprising:
(a) driving the work drum with the drive motor and thereby rotating the work drum at a first rotational speed;
(b) engaging the work drum with a ground surface and working the ground surface;
(c) raising the work drum from the ground surface to a raised position;
(d) replacing some of the exchangeable tools on the work drum;
(e) actuating the auxiliary drive and driving the work drum in the raised position with the auxiliary drive via the drive coupling at a second rotational speed lower than the first rotational speed;
(f) replacing some more of the exchangeable tools on the work drum;
(g) again driving the work drum with the drive motor and thereby rotating the work drum at the first rotational speed; and
(h) lowering the work drum back into engagement with the ground surface and working the ground surface, all of steps (a)-(h) occurring with the auxiliary drive operably mounted on the machine.
23. The method of claim 22 , wherein:
step (e) further comprises switching the auxiliary drive from an uncoupled configuration to a coupled configuration coupled to the drive coupling prior to driving the work drum in the raised position; and
step (g) further comprises switching the auxiliary drive back to the uncoupled configuration prior to again driving the work drum with the drive motor.
24. The method of claim 22 , wherein:
steps (a) and (g) further include allowing an idle operation of the auxiliary drive.
25. The method of claim 22 , wherein:
step (e) further includes rotating the raised work drum by a predetermined or selectable rotational angle.
26. The method of claim 22 , wherein:
step (e) further includes switching off the auxiliary drive when a preset moment of resistance is reached.
27. The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
between steps (b) and (d), switching off the drive motor or decoupling the drive motor from the drive line.
28. The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
between steps (f) and (g), switching on the drive motor or coupling the drive motor to the drive line.
29. The method of claim 22 , further comprising:
repeating steps (e) and (f) until all of the exchangeable tools on the work drum have been exchanged.
30. The construction machine of claim 1 , wherein:
the auxiliary drive is permanently coupled to the drive coupling and includes an idle operation mode.Cited by (0)
