Abstract
The present disclosure provides antimicrobial peptides, and compositions comprising same. The present disclosure further provides methods of inhibiting microbial growth.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1. A wound or surgical dressing comprising:
i) a substrate; and
ii) an antimicrobial peptide bound to the substrate, wherein the antimicrobial peptide has a length of from 10 amino acids to 50 amino acids, wherein the antimicrobial peptide comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 95% amino acid sequence identity to a contiguous stretch of from 10 amino acids to 35 amino acids of the sequence YSYGSGLGVGGGFSSSSGRAIGGGLSSVGGGSSTIKYTTT SSSSR (SEQ ID NO:63), and wherein the antimicrobial peptide contains at least one phosphorylated tyrosine residue.
2. The wound or surgical dressing of claim 1 , wherein the substrate comprises a gauze; an elastic material; a coform web; an airlaid web; a bonded carded web; a wetlaid web; a foam; a film; a woven fabric; a knitted fabric; or a hydroentangled web.
3. The wound or surgical dressing of claim 1 , wherein the wound or surgical dressing comprises an adhesive bandage or a wrapping.
4. The wound or surgical dressing of claim 1 , wherein the peptide comprises an amino acid sequence selected from:
(SEQ ID NO: 1)
AIGGGLSSVGGGSSTIK;
(SEQ ID NO: 2)

YGSGLGVGGGFSSSSGRAIGGGLSSVGGGSSTIKYT;
and
(SEQ ID NO: 9)
GGLSSVGGGS.
5. The wound or surgical dressing of claim 1 , wherein at least two adjacent amino acids of the peptide are joined via a linkage other than an amide bond.
6. The wound or surgical dressing of claim 1 , wherein the peptide comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 98% amino acid sequence identity to a contiguous stretch of from 10 amino acids to 35 amino acids of the sequence YSYGSGLGVGGGFSSSSGRAIGGGLSSVGGGSSTIKYTTTSSSSR (SEQ ID NO:63).
7. The wound or surgical dressing of claim 1 , wherein the peptide comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 99% amino acid sequence identity to a contiguous stretch of from 10 amino acids to 35 amino acids of the sequence YSYGSGLGVGGGFSSSSGRAIGGGLSSVGGGSSTIKYTTTSSSSR (SEQ ID NO:63).
8. An implantable or insertable medical device comprising an antimicrobial peptide, wherein the antimicrobial peptide has a length of from 10 amino acids to 50 amino acids, wherein the antimicrobial peptide comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 95% amino acid sequence identity to a contiguous stretch of from 10 amino acids to 35 amino acids of the sequence YSYGSGLGVGGGFSSSSGRAIGGGLSSVGGGSSTIKYTTTSSSSR (SEQ ID NO:63), and wherein the antimicrobial peptide contains at least one phosphorylated tyrosine residue.
9. The implantable or insertable medical device of claim 8 , wherein the implantable or insertable medical device is a contact lens.
10. The implantable or insertable medical device of claim 8 , wherein the peptide comprises an amino acid sequence selected from:
(SEQ ID NO: 1)

and
(SEQ ID NO: 9)
GGLSSVGGGS.
11. The implantable or insertable medical device of claim 8 , wherein at least two adjacent amino acids of the peptide are joined via a linkage other than an amide bond.
12. The implantable or insertable medical device of claim 8 , wherein the peptide comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 98% amino acid sequence identity to a contiguous stretch of from 10 amino acids to 35 amino acids of the sequence YSYGSGLGVGGGFSSSSGRAIGGGLSSVGGGSSTIKYTTTSSSSR (SEQ ID NO:63).
