Abstract

Disclosed are methods of administering 2-methylene-19-nor-(20S)-1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D 3 to treat and/or prevent secondary hyperparathyroidism and/or its accompanying symptoms in a subject having or at risk for developing secondary hyperparathyroidism.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
We claim:

       1. A method of preventing an increase in serum parathyroid levels in a subject having secondary hyperparathyroidism, the method comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of 2-methylene-19-nor-(20S)-1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D 3 or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof to the subject without inducing hypercalcemia in the subject wherein an increase in serum parathyroid levels are prevented.

       2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the 2-methylene-19-nor-(20S)-1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D 3 is formulated in an oral, topical, transdermal, parenteral, injection or infusion dosage form.

       3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the therapeutically effective amount ranges from about 1 ng/kg bw to about 10 ng/kg bw.

       4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject is receiving hemodialysis treatment.

       5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the subject is administered a therapeutically effective amount of 2-methylene-19-nor-(20S)-1α,25-dihydroxyvitamin D 3 three times per week.

       6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject has renal failure.

       7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the subject has a glomerular filtration rate of less than 15 mL/min/1.73 m 2 .
