Abstract
Telecommunications data usage management may be provided. A network state associated with a communication network may be identified. Upon determining that the network state is not in compliance with a data usage policy, access to the communication network may be restricted for at least one application.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1. A method comprising:
identifying a network state associated with a device in communication with a communication network;
determining whether the network state is a specified network state identified by a data usage policy; and
in response to determining that the network state is the specified network state, identifying a type associated with a communication generated by the device for transmission over the communication network;
determining whether the data usage policy specifies that the type associated with the communication is permitted when the device is associated with the specified network state; and
permitting access to the communication network when the type associated with the communication is permitted when the device is associated with the specified network state.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the network state further comprises a roaming status associated with a cellular connection associated with the device.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the type associated with the communication comprises a request to check-in with a management service associated with the device.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the type associated with the communication comprises a request for a message header associated with a mailbox of a user of the device.
5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the network state comprises a geo-fenced location associated with the device, wherein the geo-fenced location is associated with a high priority.
6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the network state comprises a timestamp, wherein the timestamp corresponds to a time of day that is associated with a high priority.
7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising restricting access to the communication network in response to determining that the data usage policy fails to specify that the type associated with the communication is permitted when the device is associated with the specified network state.
8. A system comprising:
a computing device comprising a processor, a memory, and a network interface;
an application comprising machine-readable instructions stored in the memory that, when executed by the processor, cause the computing device to at least:
identify a network state associated with a device in communication with a communication network;
determine whether the network state is a specified network state identified by a data usage policy; and
in response to a determination that the network state is the specified network state, identify a type associated with a communication generated by the device for transmission over the communication network;
determine whether the data usage policy specifies that the type associated with the communication is permitted when the device is associated with the specified network state; and
permit access to the communication network when the type associated with the communication is permitted when the device is associated with the specified network state.
9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the network state further comprises a roaming status associated with a cellular connection associated with the device.
10. The system of claim 8 , wherein the type associated with the communication comprises a request to check-in with a management service associated with the device.
11. The system of claim 8 , wherein the type associated with the communication comprises a request for a message header associated with a mailbox of a user of the device.
12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the network state comprises a geo-fenced location associated with the device, wherein the geo-fenced location is associated with a high priority.
13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the network state comprises a timestamp, wherein the timestamp corresponds to a time of day that is associated with a high priority.
14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the application further causes the computing device to at least restrict access to the communication network in response to determining that the data usage policy fails to specify that the type associated with the communication is permitted when the device is associated with the specified network state.
15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium embodying a program executable by a computing device, the program configured to cause the computing device to at least:
identify a network state associated with a device in communication with a communication network;
determine whether the network state is a specified network state identified by a data usage policy; and
in response to a determination that the network state is the specified network state, identify a type associated with a communication generated by the device for transmission over the communication network;
determine whether the data usage policy specifies that the type associated with the communication is permitted when the device is associated with the specified network state; and
permit access to the communication network when the type associated with the communication is permitted when the device is associated with the specified network state.
16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the network state further comprises a roaming status associated with a cellular connection associated with the device.
17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the type associated with the communication comprises a request to check-in with a management service associated with the device.
18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the type associated with the communication comprises a request for a message header associated with a mailbox of a user of the device.
19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the network state comprises a geo-fenced location associated with the device, wherein the geo-fenced location is associated with a high priority.
20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the application further causes the computing device to at least restrict access to the communication network in response to determining that the data usage policy fails to specify that the type associated with the communication is permitted when the device is associated with the specified network state.Cited by (0)
