Abstract
A computer-implemented method for installing a component within a system is described. In one embodiment, component information is identified via a component code on a component. User input is received that includes additional component information. A component associated with the component code is activated in a system based on the component information and the additional component information.
Claims
exact text as granted — not AI-modifiedWhat is claimed is:
1. A method of installing a component in a security and automation system, comprising:
receiving, via a control panel, component information associated with the component;
generating, via the control panel, a set of instructions associated with the component based at least in part on the received component information; and
transmitting, via the control panel, the set of instructions to a mobile computing device located at a location different from a location of the control panel and the component.
2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
identifying, via the control panel, additional component information based at least in part on the receiving;
generating, via the control panel, a set of instructions associated with the component based at least in part on the received component information and additional component information;
transmitting, via the control panel, the set of instructions to the mobile computing device; and
registering, via the control panel, the component in the security and automation system based at least in part on the additional component information.
3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
scanning, via the mobile computing device, the component code associated with the component; and
receiving, via the mobile computing device, the component information based at least in part on the scanning.
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein scanning the component code comprises scanning the component code via a camera on the mobile computing device.
5. The method of claim 3 , wherein scanning the component code is at a location different from the location of the control panel.
6. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:
transmitting, via the mobile computing device, the component information to the control panel.
7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving the additional component information associated with the component via input on an interface of the mobile computing device.
8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
receiving the additional component information based at least in part on accessing information associated with the component from a database.
9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
determining, via the control panel, that the component is malfunctioning; and
transmitting, via the control panel, an alert associated with the component to a mobile computing device based at least in part on the determining.
10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the alert comprises diagnostic information associated with the malfunctioning.
11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
identifying, via the control panel, a list of install locations associated with the component based at least in part on the additional component information; and
transmitting, via the control panel, the list of install locations to the mobile computing device.
12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:
receiving a selection associated with an install location based at least in part on the list of install locations.
13. The method of claim 1 , wherein the additional component information comprises at least one of component identification information, component type information, component settings information, component specification information, and component location information.
14. An apparatus for installing a component in a security and automation system, comprising:
a processor;
a memory in electronic communication with the processor; and
instructions stored in the memory, the instructions being executable by the processor to:
receive component information associated with the component;
generate a set of instructions associated with the component based at least in part on the received component information; and
transmit the set of instructions to a mobile computing device located at a location different from a location of the apparatus or the component.
15. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to:
identify additional component information based at least in part on the receiving;
generate a set of instructions associated with the component based at least in part on the received component information and additional component information;
transmit the set of instructions to the mobile computing device; and
register the component in the security and automation system based at least in part on the additional component information.
16. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to:
scan the component code associated with the component; and
receive the component information based at least in part on the scanning.
17. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to:
receive the additional component information based at least in part on accessing information associated with the component from a database.
18. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the instructions are executable by the processor to:
determine that the component is malfunctioning; and
transmit an alert associated with the component to a mobile computing device based at least in part on the determining.
19. A control panel for installing a component in a security and automation system, comprising:
one or more processors of the control panel dedicated for use at a particular location within a residence;
the control panel configured to communicate with at least one component and a mobile computing device via the one or more processors,
wherein the control panel is further configured to:
receive component information associated with the component;
generate a set of instructions associated with the component based at least in part on the received component information; and
transmit the set of instructions to the mobile computing device located at a location different from a location of the control panel and the component.
20. The control panel of claim 19 , further comprising:
identify additional component information based at least in part on the receiving;
generate a set of instructions associated with the component based at least in part on the received component information and additional component information;
transmit the set of instructions to the mobile computing device; and
register the component in the security and automation system based at least in part on the additional component information.Cited by (0)
