Image forming apparatus

Abstract

According to an embodiment, an image forming apparatus includes a case having a door which can be opened and closed. A first rotating body, provided in the case, is exposed from the case when the door is opened. A second rotating body, provided in the case, is exposed from the case when the door is opened. The second rotating body forms a nip with the first rotating body. A spacer, detachably provided in the case, separates the first rotating body and the second rotating body when the spacer is attached. The second rotating body forms a nip with the first rotating body when the spacer is detached.

What is claimed is: 
     
       1. An image forming apparatus comprising:
 a case having a door which can be opened and closed; 
 a first rotating body, provided in the case, that is exposed from the case when the door is opened, the first rotating body including an image carrier having a toner image carrying surface; 
 a second rotating body, provided in the case, that is exposed from the case when the door is opened, the second rotating body forming a nip with the first rotating body, the second rotating body being a transfer roller that transfers a toner image from the toner image carrying surface to a recording medium, the transfer roller forming a nip with the toner image carrying surface; 
 a spacer, detachably provided in the case, that separates the first rotating body and the second rotating body when the spacer is attached, and wherein the second rotating body forms a nip with the first rotating body when the spacer is detached; and 
 a contact roller provided coaxially with the transfer roller, wherein the spacer is detachably attached to the contact roller, and 
 the contact roller is attached at the both ends of a rotary shaft of the transfer roller. 
 
     
     
       2. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the contact roller performs positioning of the transfer roller for the image carrier when the spacer is detached from the contact roller. 
     
     
       3. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the contact roller forms a gap of about the thickness of one of the recording medium between the toner image carrying surface of the image carrier and the outer circumferential surface of the transfer roller when the spacer is detached from the contact roller. 
     
     
       4. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 1 , wherein the contact roller has an outer diameter slightly larger than an outer diameter of the transfer roller. 
     
     
       5. An image forming apparatus comprising:
 a case having a door which can be opened and closed; 
 a first rotating body, provided in the case, that is exposed from the case when the door is opened, the first rotating body including an image carrier having a toner image carrying surface; 
 a second rotating body, provided in the case, that is exposed from the case when the door is opened, the second rotating body forming a nip with the first rotating body, the second rotating body being a transfer roller that transfers a toner image from the toner image carrying surface to a recording medium; 
 a spacer, detachably provided in the case, that separates the first rotating body and the second rotating body when the spacer is attached, the second rotating body forming a nip with the first rotating body when the spacer is detached; and 
 a contact roller provided coaxially with the transfer roller, the spacer being detachably attached to the contact roller, wherein 
 the transfer roller forms the nip with the toner image carrying surface within an image forming region of the toner image carrying surface where the toner image is formed when the spacer is detached from the contact roller. 
 
     
     
       6. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 5 , wherein the contact roller contacts the toner image carrying surface outside of the image forming region of the toner image carrying surface when the spacer is detached from the contact roller. 
     
     
       7. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 6 , wherein the spacer is detachably attached to the contact roller, and is interposed between the image carrier and the contact roller. 
     
     
       8. An image forming apparatus comprising:
 a case having a door which can be opened and closed; 
 a first rotating body, provided in the case, that is exposed from the case when the door is opened; 
 a second rotating body, provided in the case, that is exposed from the case when the door is opened, the second rotating body forming a nip with the first rotating body; 
 a spacer, detachably provided in the case, that separates the first rotating body and the second rotating body when the spacer is attached, wherein the second rotating body forms a nip with the first rotating body when the spacer is detached; and 
 a contact roller provided coaxially with the second rotating body, wherein the spacer is detachably attached to the contact roller. 
 
     
     
       9. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 8 , wherein the contact roller performs positioning of the second rotating body for the first rotating body when the spacer is detached from the contact roller. 
     
     
       10. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 8 , wherein the contact roller is attached at the both ends of a rotary shaft of the second rotating body. 
     
     
       11. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 10 , wherein the contact roller has an outer diameter slightly larger than an outer diameter of second rotating body. 
     
     
       12. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 8 , wherein the contact roller forms a gap of about the thickness of one of a recording medium between a surface of the first rotating body and a surface of the second rotating body when the spacer is detached from the contact roller. 
     
     
       13. The image forming apparatus according to  claim 8 , wherein the spacer is detachably attached to the contact roller, and is interposed between the image carrier and the contact roller.
