Abstract

A request from a client to generate a beam plan for a satellite may be received. In response to receiving a request from the client to generate the beam plan for the satellite, a beam plan for the satellite that satisfies the request may be obtained. The beam plan may be provided to a protection module. The beam plan may be determined to satisfy the protection module. In response to determining that the beam plan satisfies the protection module, the beam plan may be transmitted to the satellite.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

       1. A computer-implemented method performed by a satellite communications system, the method comprising:
 receiving a request from a client to generate a beam plan for a satellite;
 in response to receiving a request from the client to generate the beam plan for the satellite, obtaining a beam plan for the satellite that satisfies the request;
 providing the beam plan to a protection module;
 determining that the beam plan satisfies the protection module; and
 in response to determining that the beam plan satisfies the protection module, transmitting the beam plan to the satellite,
 wherein the protection module comprises one or more of:
 a satellite protection module that ensures that the beam plan does not result in damage to the satellite,
 a regulatory protection module that ensures that the beam plan does not violate regulatory constraints, and
 a service protection module that ensures that the beam plan does not violate service level agreements.

       2. The method of claim 1 , wherein obtaining a beam plan for the satellite comprises obtaining the beam plan using an application module that is less secure than the protection module.

       3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the application module that is less secure than the protection module comprises an application module that a user has authorization to change when the user does not have authorization to change the protection module.

       4. The method of claim 2 , wherein the application module comprises a beam shaping application module and the request describes a geographic location of terminals and communication link requirements as one or more inputs to the beam shaping application module.

       5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the protection module comprises a sandbox simulator.

       6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the protection module uses a set of rules that are defined using a scripting language.

       7. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining that the beam plan satisfies the protection module comprises receiving an indication from the protection module that the beam plan satisfies the protection module.

       8. The method of claim 1 , wherein obtaining a beam plan for the satellite that satisfies the request comprises:
 updating beam requirements for the satellite based on the request;
 providing, by a system manager, the beam requirements to a resource manager; and
 receiving, from the resource manager, the beam plan.

       9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the beam plan describes all beams to be generated by the satellite.

       10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the client comprises a virtual hub client that communicates with one or more end-user software applications.

       11. The method of claim 1 , comprising:
 receiving an indication from the protection module that an application module resulted in a beam plan that does not satisfy the protection module; and
 in response to receiving the indication from the protection module that the application module resulted in the beam plan that does not satisfy the protection module, providing an alert to an administrator that the application module resulted in a beam plan that does not satisfy the protection module.

       12. The method of claim 1 , wherein transmitting the beam plan to the satellite comprises:
 transmitting the beam plan to the satellite using an antenna.

       13. A system comprising:
 one or more computers and one or more storage devices storing instructions that are operable, when executed by the one or more computers, to cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:
 receiving a request from a client to generate a beam plan for a satellite;
 in response to receiving a request from the client to generate the beam plan for the satellite, obtaining a beam plan for the satellite that satisfies the request using an application module that is less secure than a protection module,
 wherein the application module that is less secure than the protection module comprises an application module that a user has authorization to change when the user does not have authorization to change the protection module;
 providing the beam plan to the protection module;
 determining that the beam plan satisfies the protection module; and
 in response to determining that the beam plan satisfies the protection module, transmitting the beam plan to the satellite.

       14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the protection module comprises one or more of:
 a satellite protection module that ensures that the beam plan does not result in damage to the satellite,
 a regulatory protection module that ensures that the beam plan does not violate regulatory constraints, and
 a service protection module that ensures that the beam plan does not violate service level agreements.

       15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the application module comprises a beam shaping application module and the request describes a geographic location of terminals and communication link requirements as one or more inputs to the beam shaping application module.

       16. The system of claim 13 , wherein the protection module comprises a sandbox simulator.

       17. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing software comprising instructions executable by one or more computers which, upon such execution, cause the one or more computers to perform operations comprising:
 receiving a request from a client to generate a beam plan for a satellite;
 in response to receiving a request from the client to generate the beam plan for the satellite, obtaining a beam plan for the satellite that satisfies the request;
 providing the beam plan to a protection module;
 determining that the beam plan satisfies the protection module;
 in response to determining that the beam plan satisfies the protection module, transmitting the beam plan to the satellite,
 receiving an indication from the protection module that an application module resulted in a beam plan that does not satisfy the protection module; and
 in response to receiving the indication from the protection module that the application module resulted in the beam plan that does not satisfy the protection module, providing an alert to an administrator that the application module resulted in a beam plan that does not satisfy the protection module.

       18. The medium of claim 17 , wherein the protection module comprises one or more of:
 a satellite protection module that ensures that the beam plan does not result in damage to the satellite,
