Claims

Abstract

The present invention describes an isocyanate-cured hydroxy, acid or amine functionalized selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene. The present invention also describes coatings, adhesives, sealants and modified asphalts made therewith.

I claim: 
     
       1. An isocyanate-cured hydroxy-functionalized selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene wherein the hydroxy functionality is randomly dispersed throughout the polymer on the conjugated diene blocks. 
     
     
       2. The block copolymer of claim 1 wherein the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon is styrene and the conjugated diene is selected from the group consisting of butadiene and isoprene. 
     
     
       3. An isocyanate-cured amine-functionalized selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene. 
     
     
       4. The block copolymer of claim 3 wherein the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon is styrene and the conjugated diene is selected from the group consisting of butadiene and isoprene. 
     
     
       5. An isocyanate-cured acid-functionalized selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene. 
     
     
       6. The block copolymer of claim 5 wherein the vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon is styrene and the conjugated diene is selected from the group consisting of butadiene and isoprene. 
     
     
       7. A coating composition made using the block copolymer of claim 1. 
     
     
       8. A coating composition made using the block copolymer of claim 3. 
     
     
       9. A coating composition made using the block copolymer of claim 5. 
     
     
       10. An adhesive composition made using the block copolymer of claim 1. 
     
     
       11. An adhesive composition made using the block copolymer of claim 3. 
     
     
       12. An adhesive composition made using the block copolymer of claim 5. 
     
     
       13. A sealant composition made using the block copolymer of claim 1. 
     
     
       14. A sealant composition made using the block copolymer of claim 3. 
     
     
       15. A sealant composition made using the block copolymer of claim 5. 
     
     
       16. A moisture curable, isocyanate-capped hydroxy-functionalized selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene. 
     
     
       17. A moisture curable, isocyanate-capped amine-functionalized selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene. 
     
     
       18. A moisture curable, isocyanate-capped acid-functionalized selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene. 
     
     
       19. A process for producing a coated substrate which comprises coating the substrate with an isocyanate-cured selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene which is functionalized with a functional group selected from the group consisting of hydroxy, acid and amine. 
     
     
       20. A modified asphalt composition comprising a bituminous component and an isocyanate-cured hydroxy-functionalized selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene. 
     
     
       21. A modified asphalt composition comprising a bituminous component and an isocyanate-cured acid-functionalized selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene. 
     
     
       22. A modified asphalt composition comprising a bituminous component and an isocyanate-cured amine-functionalized selectively hydrogenated block copolymer of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene.
