Abstract

The invention relates to a method of treating a catabolic dysfunction in an animal, which comprises administering to an animal a therapeutically effective amount of glutamine, or an analog thereof.

The method of claim 9 wherein said parenteral administration is at the rate from 0.2 to 3.0 grams of glutamine or glutamine analogue per kilogram of body weight per day..!.. .14. A composition comprising a glutamine-rich composition for preventing or ameliorating a catabolic dysfunction..!.. .17. A container for a liquid composition adapted for intravenous administration of said composition, comprising a receptacle for said composition, and liquid conducive means connected to said receptacle capable of attachment to a needle for intravenous dispensation, wherein said composition comprises an amount of glutamine capable of inhibiting a catabolic dysfunction in an animal..!.. .18.
