Copy protection using detailed copy control information
Abstract
Based on the detailed reproduction control information defining the reproduction control state of data to be transmitted, the CPU 12 of the data transmission apparatus creates a simplified reproduction control information roughly defining the reproduction control state of the data, stores the simplified reproduction control information of the data in the packet header of a data packet carrying the data, stores the detailed reproduction control information in the data, and transmits the simplified reproduction control information and the detailed reproduction control information as well as the data to the data receiving apparatus 20 through the transmission channel 30 from the input-output interface 16. The CPU 22 of the data receiving apparatus 20 analyses the reproduction control state of the data contained in the data packet based on the simplified reproduction information and the detailed reproduction information contained in the data packet, and controls the reproduction of the data by the action of the media access part 26 according to the analysis result.

setting means for setting first copy control information indicating copy control information of the data in a header portion of the data packet and second copy control information indicating copy control information of the data, in greater detail than the first copy control information, in a data portion of the data packet, wherein the first copy control information or the second copy control information is used to process the data packet; and
output means for outputting the data packet including the first copy control information and the second copy control information.
3. A data processing apparatus comprising:
generating means for generating a data packet for transmitting the data;
setting means for setting first copy control information indicating copy control information of the data in a header portion of the data packet and second copy control information indicating copy control information of the data, in greater detail than the first copy control information, in a data portion of the data packet, formed in larger number of bits than the first copy control information, wherein the first copy control information or the second copy control information is used to process the data packet; and
output means for outputting the data packet including the first copy control information and the second copy control information.
4. A data processing apparatus comprising:
generating means for generating a data packet for transmitting the data;
inputting means for the data including first copy control information indicating copy control information of the data in a header portion of the data packet and second copy control information indicating copy control information of the data, in greater detail than the first copy control information, in a data portion of the data packet, wherein the first copy control information or the second copy control information is used to process the data packet when the data is reproduced; and
controlling means for controlling copy control of the data packet based on the first copy control information and the second copy control information.
5. A data processing apparatus comprising:
generating means for generating a data packet for transmitting the data;
inputting means for inputting the data including first copy control information indicating copy control information of the data in a header portion of the data packet and second copy control information indicating copy control information of the data, in greater detail than the first copy control information, in a data portion of the data packet, wherein the first copy control information or the second copy control information is used to process the data packet; and
controlling means for controlling copy control of the data packet to another data processing apparatus when the data is transmitted from outside.
6. A data processing apparatus comprising:
generating means for generating a data packet for transmitting the data;
inputting means for inputting first copy control information indicating copy control information of the data in a header portion of the data packet and second copy control information indicating copy control information of the data, in greater detail than the first copy control information, in a data portion of the data packet, formed in larger number of bits than the first copy control information, wherein the first copy control information or the second copy control information is used to process the data packet; and
controlling means for controlling copying of the data packet based, on the first copy control information and the second copy control information.
7. A data processing method comprising:
storing data in a storage;
generating a data packet for transmitting the data;
setting first copy control information indicating copy control information of the data in a header portion of the data packet and second copy control information indicating copy control information of the data, in greater detail than the first copy control information, in a data portion of the data packet, wherein the first copy control information or the second copy control information is used to process the data packet; and
outputting the data packet to another data processing apparatus.
8. A data processing method comprising:
generating a data packet for transmitting the data;
setting first copy control information indicating copy control information of the data in a header portion of the data packet and second copy control information indicating copy control information of the data, in greater detail than the first copy control information, in a data portion of the data packet, wherein the first copy control information or the second copy control information is used to process the data packet; and
outputting the data packet including the first copy control information and the second copy control information.
9. A data processing method comprising:
generating a data packet for transmitting the data;
setting first copy control information indicating copy control information of the data in a header portion of the data packet and second copy control information indicating copy control information of the data, in greater detail than the first copy control information, in a data portion of the data packet, formed in larger number of bits than the first copy control information, wherein the first copy control information or the second copy control information is used to process the data packet; and
outputting the data packet including the first copy control information and the second copy control information.
10. A data processing method comprising:
generating a data packet for transmitting the data;
inputting data including first copy control information indicating copy control information of the data in a header portion of the data packet and second copy control information indicating copy control information of the data, in greater detail than the first copy control information, in a data portion of the data packet, wherein the first copy control information or the second copy control information is used to process the data packet when the data is reproduced; and
controlling copy control of the data packet based on the first copy control information and the second copy control information.
11. A data processing method comprising:
generating a data packet for transmitting the data;
inputting data including first copy control information indicating copy control information of the data in a header portion of the data packet and second copy control information indicating copy control information of the data, in greater detail than the first copy control information, in a data portion of the data packet, wherein the first copy control information or the second copy control information is used to process the data packet; and
controlling copy control of the data packet to another data processing apparatus when the data is transmitted from outside.
12. A data processing method comprising:
generating a data packet for transmitting the data;
inputting first copy control information indicating copy control information of the data in a header portion of the data packet and second copy control information indicating copy control information of the data, in greater detail than the first copy control information, in a data portion of the data packet, formed in larger number of bits than the first copy control information, wherein the first copy control information or the second copy control information is used to process the data packet; and
controlling copy of the data packet based on the first copy control information and the second copy control information.
13. A data processing apparatus comprising:
a setting unit for setting first copy control information and second copy control information indicating copy control information corresponding to data included in a data packet, the first copy control information being included in a header portion of the data packet, and the second copy control information having greater detail than the first copy control information; and an output unit for outputting the data packet.
14. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, wherein the outputting unit outputs the data packet to another data processing apparatus.
15. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, wherein the first copy control information indicates a copy control state of the data, and the second copy control information indicates the copy control state in greater detail.
16. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, further comprising:
a control unit for controlling reproduction of the data based on the first copy control information and the second copy control information.
17. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, wherein the setting unit sets the first copy control information based on the second copy control information.
18. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, wherein the data packet includes a data section, and the second copy control information is included in the data section.
19. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, wherein the first copy control information indicates one of a plurality of copy control states of the data.
20. The data processing apparatus of claim 19, wherein the second copy control information indicates one of the plurality of copy control states of the data in greater detail than the one state indicated by the first copy control information, and wherein the one state indicated by the second copy control information is associated with the one state indicated by the first copy control information.
21. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, further comprising:
a generating unit for generating the data packet.
22. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, further comprising:
an input unit for inputting the data packet, wherein the data packet is received from another data processing apparatus.
23. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, further comprising:
a storage unit for storing the data packet.
24. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, wherein the data section includes image data and audio data, and the header section includes a synchronization code for synchronization of the image data and the audio data.
25. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, wherein the header section includes a tag indicating a type of the data.
26. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, wherein the data packet includes cyclic redundancy code to check for a transmission error.
27. The data processing apparatus of claim 13, wherein the data packet is an isochronous packet.
28. A method for setting control information, the method being executed by a data processing apparatus and comprising:
setting, by using a processor included in the data processing apparatus, first copy control information and second copy control information indicating copy control information corresponding to data included in a data packet, the first copy control information being included in a header portion of the data packet, and the second copy control information having greater detail than the first copy control information; and outputting the data packet.
29. The method of claim 28, wherein the first copy control information indicates a copy control state of the data and the second copy control information indicates the copy control state in greater detail.
30. The method of claim 28, further comprising:
controlling the reproduction of the data based on the first copy control information and the second copy control information.
31. The method of claim 28, wherein the first copy control information is set based on the second copy control information.
32. The method of claim 28, wherein the data packet includes a data section, and the second copy control information is included in the data section.
33. The method of claim 28, wherein the first copy control information indicates one of a plurality of copy control states of the data, and the second copy control information indicates one of the plurality of copy control states of the data in greater detail than the one state indicated by the first copy control information, and wherein the one state indicated by the second copy control information is associated with the one state indicated by the first copy control information.
34. The method of claim 28, further comprising:
generating the data packet; and providing the data packet to the setting unit.
35. A non-transitory recording medium storing program instructions, which when executed by a processor causes the processor to perform a method for setting control information, the method comprising:
setting first copy control information and second copy control information indicating copy control information corresponding to data included in a data packet, the first copy control information being included in a header portion of the data packet, and the second copy control information having greater detail than the first copy control information; and outputting the data packet.
36. The recording medium of claim 35, wherein the first copy control information indicates a copy control state of the data and the second copy control information indicates the copy control state in greater detail.
37. The recording medium of claim 35, wherein the method further comprises:
controlling reproduction of the data based on the first copy control information and the second copy control information.
38. The recording medium of claim 35, wherein the first copy control information is set based on the second copy control information.
39. The recording medium of claim 35, wherein the data packet includes a data section, and the second copy control information is included in the data section.

The recording medium of claim 35, wherein the first copy control information indicates one of a plurality of copy control states of the data, and the second copy control information indicates one of the plurality of copy control states of the data in greater detail than the one state indicated by the first copy control information, and wherein the one state indicated by the second copy control information is associated with the one state indicated by the first copy control information.
41. The recording medium of claim 35, wherein the method further comprises:
generating the data packet; and providing the data packet to the setting unit.
42. A data processing apparatus of claim 13, further comprising
