Abstract

A plate for attaching to an anatomic structure with fasteners. The plate has a body with a top surface and a bottom surface opposite the top surface. The body defines one or more openings to receive a respective one of the one or more fasteners. The bottom surface is concave to define a space to accommodate a portion of the anatomic structure. A bone pad surface extends from the bottom surface. A spike extends away from the bone pad surface. An extension arm can be coupled to the plate and the extension arm can support a tracking head to implement a surgical tracking assembly.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
What is claimed is:

       1. A plate for attaching to an anatomic structure with one or more fasteners, the plate comprising:
 a body comprising at least three corners, a top surface, and a bottom surface opposite the top surface, the body defining one or more openings configured to receive a respective one of the one or more fasteners, wherein the bottom surface is concave to define a space configured to accommodate a portion of the anatomic structure;
 at least three bone pad surfaces, with each bone pad surface extending from the bottom surface of one of the corners; and
 at least three spikes, with each spike extending away from one of the bone pad surfaces.

       2. The plate of claim 1 , wherein a boundary is defined at a location in which an edge of at least one bone pad surface transitions to the bottom surface, and wherein the edge of the at least one bone pad surface is angled or curved at the boundary.

       3. The plate of claim 1 , wherein at least one bone pad surface is configured to be oriented substantially parallel to a portion of the anatomic structure to which the at least one bone pad surface is configured to contact.

       4. The plate of claim 1 , wherein at least one spike comprises a base and the bone pad surface from which the at least one spike extends completely surrounds the base.

       5. The plate of claim 1 , wherein at least one spike comprises a base and the bone pad surface from which the at least one spike extends partially surrounds the base.

       6. The plate of claim 1 , wherein at least one spike is coupled to the bottom surface of the body and the at least one spike extends through the bone pad surface from which the at least one spike extends.

       7. The plate of claim 1 , wherein at least one spike is integrally formed with the bone pad surface.

       8. The plate of claim 1 , wherein at least one spike is fastened to the bone pad surface.

       9. The plate of claim 1 , wherein the body further comprises a peripheral edge extending between the top surface and the bottom surface, wherein at least one bone pad surface extends to the peripheral edge.

       10. A surgical tracking assembly, comprising:
 a tracking head;
 an extension arm comprising a mounting end and a base end, and the tracking head being coupled to the extension arm at the mounting end; and
 a plate coupled to the extension arm at the base end, the plate configured for attachment to an anatomic structure with one or more fasteners, the plate comprising:
 a body comprising at least three corners, a top surface, and a bottom surface opposite the top surface, the body defining one or more openings configured to receive a respective one of the one or more fasteners, wherein the bottom surface is concave to define a space configured to accommodate a portion of the anatomic structure;
 at least three bone pad surfaces, with each bone pad surface extending from the bottom surface of one of the corners; and
 at least three spikes, with each spike extending away from one of the bone pad surfaces.

       11. The surgical tracking assembly of claim 10 , wherein the tracking head comprises optical tracking elements.

       12. The surgical tracking assembly of claim 11 , wherein the optical tracking elements are passive tracking elements.

       13. The surgical tracking assembly of claim 11 , wherein the optical tracking elements are active tracking elements.

       14. The surgical tracking assembly of claim 10 , wherein the tracking head comprises one or both of: a gyroscope sensor and an accelerometer.

       15. The surgical tracking assembly of claim 10 , wherein at least one spike comprises a base and the bone pad surface from which the at least one spike extends completely surrounds the base.

       16. The surgical tracking assembly of claim 10 , wherein at least one spike is coupled to the bottom surface of the body and the at least one spike extends through the bone pad surface from which the at least one spike extends.

       17. The surgical tracking assembly of claim 10 , wherein at least one spike is integrally formed with the bone pad surface from which the at least one spike extends.

       18. The surgical tracking assembly of claim 10 , wherein the body further comprises a peripheral edge extending between the top surface and the bottom surface, wherein at least one bone pad surface extends to the peripheral edge.
