Claims

Abstract

This invention is to provide an ultra-miniaturized, thin-sized memory card provided with a mechanism for preventing a wrong insertion to a memory card slot. A multi-function memory card is composed of a card body and a cap for housing the card body. The card body is made of mold resin that encapsulates plural semiconductor chips mounted on a main surface of a wiring substrate. The card body is housed into the cap with the back face of the wiring substrate facing outward. Guide channels are provided at both side faces of the cap for preventing that the card is inserted upside down. Further, a convex section is provided at the trailing edge of the cap for preventing that the card is inserted in the wrong direction.

       24 . A memory card comprising: 
 a substrate having a front surface and a rear surface opposite the front surface;    a first flash memory chip mounted over the front surface of the substrate;    a controller chip for the first flash memory chip mounted over the front surface of the substrate;    a plurality of external connection terminals and a plurality of test terminals arranged over the rear surface of the substrate;    a mold resin covering the first flash memory chip and the controller chip; and    a casing covering the mold resin and the front surface of the substrate,    wherein the external connection terminals include a Vcc terminal, a Vss terminal, a CLK terminal, a DAT terminal, and a CMD terminal,    wherein a length of the Vcc terminal and of the Vss terminal is greater than a length of the CLK terminal, the DAT terminal, and the CMD terminal,    wherein first channels are formed in the casing at opposite side edge portions of the memory card,    wherein the first channels are recessed from a surface of the casing in a thickness direction of the memory card,    wherein three second channels are formed at the first channels such that the second channels pass through the casing in the thickness direction of the memory card, and    wherein two of the three second channels are formed on one of said side edge portions of the memory card, and the other of the three second channels is formed on the other of said side edge portions of the memory card.    
   
   
       25 . A memory card according to  claim 24 , wherein the external connection terminals are arranged along a direction perpendicular to an inserting direction of memory card.  
   
   
       26 . A memory card according to  claim 24 , wherein the test terminals are arranged behind the external connection terminals in an inserting direction of the memory card.  
   
   
       27 . A memory card according to  claim 24 , 
 wherein, in an inserting direction of the memory card, a convex section is formed at the casing in a back side of the memory card, and    wherein, in the thickness direction of the memory card, the convex section projects from a surface of the casing.    
   
   
       28 . A memory card according to  claim 24 , wherein the controller chip is mounted over the first flash memory chip.  
   
   
       29 . A memory card according to  claim 24 , further comprising, a second flash memory chip mounted over the front surface of the substrate.  
   
   
       30 . A memory card according to  claim 24 , 
 wherein the casing is formed of a thermoplastic resin, and    wherein the mold resin is formed of a thermosetting resin.    
   
   
       31 . A memory card according to  claim 24 , wherein a radius of curvature at corner sections of a front side of the casing is greater than a radius of curvature at corner sections of the back side of the casing.  
   
   
       32 . A memory card comprising: 
 a substrate having a front surface and a rear surface opposite the front surface;    a first flash memory chip mounted over the front surface of the substrate;    a controller chip for the first flash memory chip mounted over the front surface of the substrate;    a plurality of external connection terminals and a plurality of test terminals arranged over the rear surface of the substrate;    a mold resin covering the first flash memory chip and the controller chip; and    a casing covering the mold resin and the front surface of the substrate,    wherein the external connection terminals include a Vcc terminal, a Vss terminal, a CLK terminal, a DAT terminal, and a CMD terminal,    wherein a length of the Vcc terminal and of the Vss terminal is greater than a length of the CLK terminal, the DAT terminal, and the CMD terminal,    wherein the external connection terminals include a first terminal group arranged along a direction perpendicular to an inserting direction of the memory card and a second terminal group arranged along the direction perpendicular to the inserting direction of the memory card and after the first terminal group,    wherein the test terminals are arranged between the first terminal group and the second terminal group,    wherein first channels are formed in the casing at opposite side edge portions of the memory card,    wherein the first channels are recessed from a surface of the casing in a thickness direction of the memory card,    wherein three second channels are formed at the first channels such that the second channels pass through the casing in the thickness direction of the memory card, and    wherein two of the three second channels are formed on one of said side edge portions of the memory card, and the other of the three second channels is formed on the other of said side edge portions of the memory card.    
   
   
       33 . A memory card according to  claim 32 , 
 wherein, in an inserting direction of the memory card, a convex section is formed at the casing in a back side of the memory card, and    wherein, in the thickness direction of the memory card, the convex section projects from a surface of the casing.    
   
   
       34 . A memory card according to  claim 32 , wherein the controller chip is mounted over the first flash memory chip.  
   
   
       35 . A memory card according to  claim 32 , further comprising, a second flash memory chip mounted over the front surface of the substrate.  
   
   
       36 . A memory card according to  claim 32 , 
 wherein the casing is formed of a thermoplastic resin, and    wherein the mold resin is formed of a thermosetting resin.    
   
   
       37 . A memory card according to  claim 32 , wherein a radius of curvature at corner sections of a front side of the casing is greater than a radius of curvature at corner sections of a back side of the casing.  
   
   
       38 . A memory card comprising: 
 a first flash memory chip;    a controller chip for the first flash memory chip;    a plurality of external connection terminals; and    a plurality of test terminals,    wherein the external connection terminals include a Vcc terminal, a Vss terminal, a CLK terminal, a DAT terminal, and a CMD terminal,    wherein a length of the Vcc terminal and of the Vss terminal is greater than a length of the CLK terminal, the DAT terminal, and the CMD terminal,    wherein first channels are formed at opposite side edge portions of the memory card,    wherein the first channels are recessed from the surface of the memory card in a thickness direction of the memory card,    wherein three second channels are formed at the first channels such that the second channels pass through the memory card in the thickness direction of the memory card, and    wherein two of the three second channels are formed on one of said side edge portions of the memory card, and the other of the three second channels is formed on the other of said side edge portions of the memory card.    
   
   
       39 . A memory card according to  claim 38 , 
 wherein the external connection terminals include a first terminal group arranged along a direction perpendicular to an inserting direction of memory card and a second terminal group arranged along the direction perpendicular to the inserting direction of memory card and after the first terminal group, and    wherein the test terminals are arranged between the first terminal group and the second terminal group.    
   
   
       40 . A memory card according to  claim 38 , wherein the external connection terminals are arranged along a direction perpendicular to an inserting direction of memory card.  
   
   
       41 . A memory card according to  claim 38 , wherein the test terminals are arranged behind the external connection terminals in an inserting direction of the memory card.  
   
   
       42 . A memory card according to  claim 38 , 
 wherein, in an inserting direction of the memory card, a convex section is formed on a back side of the memory card, and    wherein, in the thickness direction of the memory card, the convex section projects from a surface of the memory card.    
   
   
       43 . A memory card according to  claim 38 , wherein the controller chip is mounted over the first flash memory chip.  
   
   
       44 . A memory card according to  claim 38 , further comprising a second flash memory chip, wherein the first flash memory chip and the second flash memory chip are mounted over a front surface of a substrate.  
   
   
       45 . A memory card according to  claim 38 , wherein a radius of curvature at corner sections of a front side of the memory card is greater than a radius of curvature at corner sections of a back side of the memory card.
