Abstract

A robot system that includes a remote control station and a robot that has a camera, a monitor and a microphone. The robot includes a user interface that allows a user to link the remote control station to access the robot. By way of example, the user interface may include a list of remote control stations that can be selected by a user at the robot site to link the robot to the selected control station. The user interface can display a connectivity prompt that allows a user at the robot site to grant access to the robot. The connectivity prompt is generated in response to a request for access by a remote control station. The robot may include a laser pointer and a button that allows a user at the robot site to turn the laser pointer on and off.

. The telepresence system of claim 29 , wherein each of the names of the plurality of healthcare facilities is associated with a telepresence device.

. The telepresence system of claim 29 , wherein the user interface displays a list of names of a plurality of doctors.

. The telepresence system of claim 31 , wherein each of the names of the plurality of doctors is associated with a telepresence device.

. The telepresence system of claim 32 , wherein the controller is configured to establish a telepresence session with a third telepresence device in response to a selection via the input device of at least one of the names of the plurality of doctors.

. The telepresence system of claim 29 , wherein the input device is a menu button.

. The telepresence system of claim 29 , wherein the user interface includes a connect button.

. The telepresence system of claim 29 , wherein the monitor is a touchscreen device.

. The telepresence system of claim 29 , wherein the user interface displays a connectivity prompt.

. The telepresence system of claim 29 , wherein the telepresence device includes a laser pointer and the user interface includes a button that deactivates the laser pointer.

. A method for establishing a communication session in a telepresence system, the method comprising:
displaying a user interface on a monitor of a first telepresence device, the user interface including a list of names of a plurality of healthcare facilities; receiving a selection via an input device of the first telepresence device, the selection including at least one of the names of the plurality of healthcare facilities; establishing a communication session with a second telepresence device; and moving a camera of the first telepresence device in response to a command generated by the second telepresence device and received via a wireless transceiver of the first telepresence device.

. The method of claim 39 , wherein each of the names of the plurality of healthcare facilities is associated with a telepresence device.

. The method of claim 39 , wherein the user interface displays a list of names of a plurality of doctors.

. The method of claim 41 , wherein each of the names of the plurality of doctors is associated with a telepresence device.

. The method of claim 42 , further comprising establishing a telepresence session with a third telepresence device in response to a selection via the input device of at least one of the names of the plurality of doctors.

. The method of claim 39 , wherein the input device is a menu button.

. The method of claim 39 , wherein the user interface includes a connect button.

. The method of claim 39 , wherein the monitor is a touchscreen device.

. The method of claim 39 , further comprising displaying a connectivity prompt.

. The method of claim 39 , wherein the first telepresence device includes a laser pointer and the user interface includes a button that deactivates the laser pointer.
