Abstract

An example method for provisioning tokens in a networked computing environment including merchants participating in payment networks involves (1) receiving a request to provide a merchant with a secondary token for a purchase card having an associated primary account number (PAN), wherein the secondary token (i) is associated with a secondary payment network and is to serve as an alternative to a primary token for the purchase card that is associated with a primary payment network, and (ii) comprises a computer-generated identifier of the purchase card that is available for use in place of the PAN when processing network-based financial transactions involving the purchase card, (2) generating the secondary token for the purchase card, and (3) transmitting the secondary token for the purchase card, wherein the secondary token for the purchase card is thereafter utilized by the merchant to process one or more network-based financial transactions involving the purchase card.

Claims

exact text as granted — not AI-modified
1 . A computing system comprising:
one or more processors; one or more non-transitory computer-readable mediums; and program instructions stored on the one or more non-transitory computer-readable mediums that are executable by the one or more processors such that the computing system is configured to:
receive, from a first other computing system, a request to provide a merchant with a secondary token for a purchase card having an associated primary account number (PAN), wherein the secondary token is associated with a secondary payment network and is to serve as an alternative to a primary token for the purchase card that is associated with a primary payment network, and wherein the secondary token comprises a computer-generated identifier of the purchase card that is available for use in place of the PAN when processing network-based financial transactions involving the purchase card; and
based on receiving the request, (i) generate the secondary token for the purchase card and (ii) transmit, to the first other computing system, the secondary token for the purchase card, wherein the secondary token for the purchase card is thereafter utilized by the merchant to process one or more network-based financial transactions involving the purchase card.

2 . The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the secondary payment network comprises a payment network for a back-of-card brand of the purchase card and the primary payment network comprises a payment network for a front-of-card brand of the purchase card.

3 . The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the primary token for the purchase card is associated with a different payment network than the given payment network.

4 . The computing system of claim 1 , further comprising program instructions stored on the one or more non-transitory computer-readable mediums that are executable by the one or more processors such that the computing system is configured to:
receive, from a second other computing system, an authorization request for a given network-based financial transaction involving the purchase card that includes the secondary token for the purchase card; detokenize the secondary token included in the authorization request; rebuild the authorization request; and transmit, to a third other computing system associated with an issuer of the purchase card, the rebuilt authorization request.

5 . The computing system of claim 4 , further comprising program instructions stored on the one or more non-transitory computer-readable mediums that are executable by the one or more processors such that the computing system is configured to:
after transmitting the rebuilt authorization request, receive, from the third other computing system associated with the issuer of the purchase card, an authorization acknowledgement for the given network-based financial transaction; and after receiving the authorization acknowledgement for the given network-based financial transaction, transmit, to the second other computing system, a confirmation for the given network-based financial transaction.

6 . The computing system of claim 4 , wherein the second other computing system is the same as the first other computing system.

7 . The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the purchase card is a debit card.

8 . The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the given network-based financial transaction comprises a card-on-file (COF) purchase or payment transaction.

9 . The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the second token for the purchase card and the primary token for the purchase card are both stored at the first other computing system.

10 . The computing system of claim 1 , wherein the purchase card comprises a multi-token enabled purchase card.

11 . The computing system of claim 1 , further comprising program instructions stored on the one or more non-transitory computer-readable mediums that are executable by the one or more processors such that the computing system is configured to, after receiving the request to provide the merchant with the secondary token for the purchase card and before generating and transmitting the secondary token:
transmit, to a second other computing system associated with an issuer of the purchase card, a request for the issuer to verify the purchase card; and receive, from the second other computing system associated with the issuer of the purchase card, a response indicating that the issuer has verified the purchase card.

12 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program instructions stored thereon that are executable to cause a computing system to perform functions comprising:
receiving, from a first other computing system, a request to provide a merchant with a secondary token for a purchase card having an associated primary account number (PAN), wherein the secondary token is associated with a secondary payment network and is to serve as an alternative to a primary token for the purchase card that is associated with a primary payment network, and wherein the secondary token comprises a computer-generated identifier of the purchase card that is available for use in place of the PAN when processing network-based financial transactions involving the purchase card; and based on receiving the request, (i) generating the secondary token for the purchase card and (ii) transmitting, to the first other computing system, the secondary token for the purchase card, wherein the secondary token for the purchase card is thereafter utilized by the merchant to process one or more network-based financial transactions involving the purchase card.

13 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the secondary payment network comprises a payment network for a back-of-card brand of the purchase card and the primary payment network comprises a payment network for a front-of-card brand of the purchase card.

14 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 12 , wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprises program instructions thereon that are executable to cause the computing system to perform functions comprising:
receiving, from a second other computing system, an authorization request for a given network-based financial transaction involving the purchase card that includes the secondary token for the purchase card; detokenizing the secondary token included in the authorization request; rebuilding the authorization request; and transmitting, to a third other computing system associated with an issuer of the purchase card, the rebuilt authorization request.

15 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the non-transitory computer-readable medium further comprises program instructions thereon that are executable to cause the computing system to perform functions comprising:
