Claims

Abstract

The present invention provides a metabolism improving agent containing a rare fatty acid such as hydroxylated fatty acid, oxo fatty acid and the like, and further, food, pharmaceutical product and the like containing the metabolism improving agent.

The invention claimed is: 
     
       1. A method for the treatment of hyperlipidemia, comprising administering to a patient having hyperlipidemia an effective amount of a fatty acid selected from the group consisting of
 13-hydroxy-cis-9,cis-15-octadecadienoic acid, 10-oxo-13-hydroxy-cis-15-octadecenoic acid, 13-oxo-cis-6,cis-9-octadecadienoic acid, 13-oxo-cis-9,cis-15-octadecadienoic acid, and 10,13-dioxo-cis-15-octadecenoic acid. 
 
     
     
       2. The method according to  claim 1 , wherein an effective amount of 13-hydroxy-cis-9,cis-15-octadecadienoic acid is administered to the patient. 
     
     
       3. A method for promoting a PPAR activity, wherein the PPAR is PPARα or PPARγ, comprising administering to a patient having hyperlipidemia an effective amount of a fatty acid selected from the group consisting of
 13-hydroxy-cis-9,cis-15-octadecadienoic acid, 10-oxo-13-hydroxy-cis-15-octadecenoic acid, 13-oxo-cis-6,cis-9-octadecadienoic acid, 13-oxo-cis-9,cis-15-octadecadienoic acid, and 10,13-dioxo-cis-15-octadecenoic acid. 
 
     
     
       4. The method according to  claim 3 , wherein an effective amount of 13-hydroxy-cis-9,cis-15-octadecadienoic acid, is administered to the patient. 
     
     
       5. The method according to  claim 3 , wherein an effective amount of 10-oxo-13-hydroxy-cis-15-octadecenoic acid is administered to the patient. 
     
     
       6. The method according to  claim 3 , wherein an effective amount of 13-oxo-cis-6,cis-9-octadecadienoic acid is administered to the patient. 
     
     
       7. The method according to  claim 3 , wherein an effective amount of 13-oxo-cis-9,cis-15-octadecadienoic acid is administered to the patient. 
     
     
       8. The method according to  claim 3 , wherein an effective amount of 10,13-dioxo-cis-15-octadecenoic acid is administered to the patient. 
     
     
       9. The method according to  claim 1 , wherein an effective amount of 10-oxo-13-hydroxy-cis-15-octadecenoic acid is administered to the patient. 
     
     
       10. The method according to  claim 1 , wherein an effective amount of 13-oxo-cis-6,cis-9-octadecadienoic acid is administered to the patient. 
     
     
       11. The method according to  claim 1 , wherein an effective amount of 13-oxo-cis-9,cis-15-octadecadienoic acid is administered to the patient. 
     
     
       12. The method according to  claim 1 , wherein an effective amount of 10,13-dioxo-cis-15-octadecenoic acid is administered to the patient.
