Claims

Abstract

A modified epoxy resin composition for use in making a printed circuit board comprising: (1) a modified epoxy resin obtained by reacting (a) a low molecular weight epoxy resin having at least two epoxy groups which .[.have.]. .Iadd.has .Iaddend.the following formula, ##STR1## (b) .[.a mono-nucleus chain tending agent containing N-heterocyclic fatty groups and.]. .Iadd.an N-heterocyclic fatty amino chain-extended agent .Iaddend.at least two active hydrogen atoms and represented by the formulas, and (c) at least one catalyst for catalyzing the reaction between components (a) and (b).

We claim: 
     
       1. A resin composition for making a printed circuit board comprising: (1) a modified epoxy resin obtained by reacting (a) a low molecular weight epoxy resin having at least two epoxide groups which .[.have.]. .Iadd.has .Iaddend.the following formula, ##STR5## where A denotes a divalent hydrocarbon with 1-10 carbon atoms or a group represented by ##STR6## X denotes a monovalent hydrocarbon with 1-10 carbon atoms or a halogen, m is 1-10 on average, n is 0 or 1, x is 0 to 4, R' represents H or a hydrocarbon group with 1-4 carbon atoms, (b) .[.a mononucleus chain extending agent containing N-heterocyclic fatty groups and.]. .Iadd.an N-heterocyclic fatty amino chain-extending agent having .Iaddend.at least two active hydrogen atoms .[.or.]. represented by the formula ##STR7## .Iadd.wherein R 1 , R 2 , R 3  and R 4  each denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having 1-10 carbon atoms .Iaddend.and (c) at least one catalyst for catalyzing the reaction between components (a) and (b), the amount of the modified epoxy resin being 10-70% by weight based on the total weight of the cured resin composition,   (2) 5-50% by weight based on the total weight of the resin composition, of at least one polyfunctional epoxy resin having at least 3 epoxy groups per molecule,   (3) 20-40% by weight based on the total weight of the resin composition, of at least one bromine containing-epoxy resin having an equivalent of 330-1500 with a bromine content of 10-50% based on the bromine containing-epoxy resin,   (4) at least one curing agent selected from the group .[.including.]. .Iadd.consisting of .Iaddend.anhydrides, amines, acids, Lewis acids, imidazoles, complex salts of Lewis acid and phenols, the amount of the active reactive groups in each mole of the curing agent being 0.5-1.5 per epoxide equivalent,   (5) 0.001-5% by weight, based on the total weight of the resin composition, of at least one accelerator for catalyzing the curing reaction of the components (1), (2), (3) and (4).
